Embark on a cycling adventure to discover the unseen side of Bangkok, the relatively mellow Thonburi and wander through the neighbourhoods that many visitors have yet to explore. Thonburi is located on the vast western side of the Chao Phraya River and this biking adventure would be sure to unfold the truth behind beautiful old Bangkok. Discovering the city by bike provides you with a more hands-on and intimate experience that provides more than just the majestic buildings and city bustle as you make your way through the crowded markets, back-alleys, over the bridges and past adorned temples. Through this small alleys and lanes, you will be introduced to the ancient temples and life along the Chao Phraya River that contribute to the foundation of the city.
Discover Bangkok through an excursion unlike any other as we take you to places you would never be able to find your own, a journey to uncover this old quarter. This is a generally effortless ride, however, certain sections along the adventure can be very narrow and will require good bike control. If you are uncomfortable with this, you can choose to walk through this sections. Pertaining to the main roads we have to cross, this will be very safe as we will cross the roads as a group and Bangkok drivers are very courteous.
Your journey will begin at the meeting point near Khaosan Road with a bike fitting before we depart on the bike through the heart of the backpacker area. We will not be stopping by any largely famous sights as this bike tour is to allow you to experience the daily lives and the beautiful city from a local’s point of view. Enjoy the beautiful scenery as we cycle along Chao Phraya River and across the Rama 8 Bridge to head towards the urban street life and stunning ancient temples. As you bike through the large canal known as Bangkok Noi and along the small alleyways that are home to a Muslim community, marvel at the majestic Buddhist temples and one of Bangkok’s first train depots. If you are lucky, you may even get the opportunity to visit a bronze owl foundry as well as the Thonburi train depot’s old steam engines.
Following that, board a local ferry back to the other side of the river and take a stroll through the public park at the Grand Palace that was once for the exclusive usage of the royal family. After this, make your way to the Giant Swing, a city landmark where Buddha images are made and sold where the site was once used for an important Hindu ceremony. After exploring this area, we will end our journey with a short bike ride back to our meeting point. Commemorate the end of an amazing adventure with a refreshing complimentary drink.
