Wander through the endless ancient ruin sites of Ayutthaya and feel humbled by the craftsmanship of ancient Thai communities.
This tour brings you to the ancient capital of Siam, Ayutthaya for an educational journey through histories of Thailand. We will go for a historical cycling ride on this tour. The ancient city of Ayutthaya will be bursting with stories ready to tell you. As we wander through the ancient ruins of the city, you just cannot stop being amazed by the ingenuity of the craftsmen and their powerful spiritual beliefs.
We will pick you up at your hotel in Bangkok centre area and go to the train station before we reach Bang Pa-in where we will start our cycling journey. It usually takes around 1.5 hours to reach Bang Pa-in. Upon reaching the historical Bang Pa-in Railway Station, we will be cycling through the alleyways of the town to reach the ferry station. We will board the ferry to go across the ever stunning Chao Phraya River. Then, continue cycling North towards the island of Ayutthaya until we reach our first destination which is the Wat Phutthai Sawan. The founder of Ayutthaya built the temple before setting up the capital on the other side of the river. The site consists of a modern working temple and an ancient Khmer-style prang surrounded with quaint corridors.
Next up on the banks of the Chao Phraya river is the Saint Joseph’s Church that will be our next destination. It was built by French missionaries in the 16th centuries. The Romanesque style church stands out very much due to its vibrant yellow colour building and a clock tower. After visiting the church, we will continue or tour to one of Ayutthaya’s most prominent sights which are the Wat Chai Watanaram. It is one of the most impressive temples in the area and it was a royal temple used by the King and other members of the Royal family
The tour continues with a lunch by the river banks accompanied by a scenic view of the Sri Suriyothai Park and the ruins of the royal palace. After crossing over to the island of Ayutthaya, we will reach the Ayutthaya Historical Park. Our first stop here will be at Wat Lokayasutharam’s dreaming reclining Buddha. Then we will go to the Wat Phrasrisanphet which was the prototype temple for the Temple of the Emerald Buddha. Before we end the tour in the park, we will cycle to Wat Mahathat where it is famous for the image of the head of the Lord Buddha cradled by a strangler fig. The temple also has a big gallery hall with destroyed Buddha images.
