Discover Chinese roots within the city of Bangkok and explore the exotic Chinatown on a bicycle!
At the heart of downtown Bangkok, a mysterious and always active district heats up the city non-stop through its never-ending flow of people in and out, it is the Chinatown. The alleys here transforms into forgotten temples, exotic markets which spill onto the streets and striking architecture spirals skyward. The tour starts in the morning commotion of Chinatown which continues to become busier as the day goes. We will cycle through back alleyways and ride through the hustle and bustle of Chinatown where you can experience the loud voices of negotiations and crowd all the time. We then boat a local ferry to a calmer surrounding on the other side of Chao Phraya River. Our ride will be much slower and gentle now as we wander through the back roads of Thonburi district. On our way here, we get to see lesser known temples, markets and sites which includes the Princess Mother Memorial Park. The park is well kept and quiet which is very relaxing. Despite its magnetizing ambience and attractions, the park does not attract many tourists. There is also a museum in the area which is historically rich and well worth the visit.
After that, we continue our cycling journey to Santa Cruz Catholic Church. The church indicates the influence of Portuguese towards the Thai society for a long time ago. The Portuguese were the first European group that made contact with Thailand in the 13th century. We will take a break to enjoy a Portuguese dessert made from an old recipe. Then, we continue our ride through the old community to the Temple of Good Friends. It has the second biggest Buddha and the biggest monk bell in Thailand. Next, we continue our cycling journey to Wat Arun, or also known as the Temple of Dawn. The temple has five towering prangs adorned by broken Chineses porcelain which makes it so stunning. Its construction symbolized an earthly version of the layers of heaven and admirers attest that mystic spirit is evident still. Alas, we will slowly cycle back to our starting point to end our journey.
