Day 1 - Nong Khiaw / Waterfall Trek / Hmong Village
Begin your journey at Luang Prabang to meet with your friendly guide and then go on a scenic drive along a road near the Nam Ou river. The road will take you to the town of Nong Khiaw, which exudes stunning beauty as the town is situated in the between tall mountains and in the midst of lush green jungles. The hike begins along a path that will take you to a cascading waterfall, where you will pass by stunning verdant ferns and tall trees. Be prepared to get wet as you cross the waterfall to reach the top. Your journey continues along a trail that levelled out through vast expanse of agricultural lands that belongs to the local villagers that reside nearby.
You will venture into the depths of the forest till you arrive at a remote Khmu village. Stroll along the paths and pass by the friendly smiles of the villagers as they engage in their daily tasks and learn about their way of life, from your guide. After exploring the quaint village, you will head to the local homestay, where you will have a memorable stay and experience the authentic lifestyle of the Khmu people. You will be provided with a delicious dinner at the homestay, where you can delight yourself in the mighty Lao cuisine.
Day 2 - Trekking / Mountain Village
Say your final goodbyes to the friendly villagers after breakfast and head to the starting point of the hike. The thrilling hike will take you through stunning valleys and towering mountains blanketed by verdant jungles and rice paddy fields. Once the Sun is at its peak on the horizon, you will visit a small Hmong village that is situated within the mountainous region. Learn about the traditional culture and lifestyles of the local people that live in the village. Venture further along a trek that will take you to another village that is located at the upper part of the mountain, with a fantastic view of countless mountain peaks that are in a distance. After exploring the remote mountain villages, you will head back to the Khmu village, where you will reside in a comfortable homestay for the remainder of the night.
Day 3 - Mountain Descent
Travel through the Nong Khiaw Valley from the top of the mountain along the well-trodden trails. Take in the spectacular sights that are around you as you explore the beautiful valley and take plenty of pictures of the surroundings. Arrive at the rustic town of Nong Khiaw that has been described as a haven for travellers, as the town is located near the Nam Ou river and between towering limestone formations. Learn about the culture and customs of the inhabitants of the town by observing them as they engage in their tasks. Explore the Phatok Cave that is a stone’s throw away from the town of Nong Khiaw, to discover leftovers by the local villagers that reside in the cave during the Second Indochina War in the sixties. At the end of the day, you will head to the comfortable Nong Khiaw Riverside Lodge for a long night’s rest.
Day 4 - The Famous 100 Waterfall Trek / Khmu Riverside Village
Start your journey on into the natural wonders of Laos, after consuming delicious breakfast. Embark on an adventure by starting off the day with a boat ride along the traditional longtail boat down the Nam Ou river. You will head to a small Khmu village that is along the shores of the Nam Ou river. Explore the quaint little village to discover the lifestyles and culture of the Khmu tribe. Observe the hardworking villagers as they fulfil their tasks for the day. Head along the trails that will take you to the stunning 100 Waterfall that is amid lush jungles.
Take a dip into the cold pool at the bottom of the waterfall that will soothe any aching muscles from the trek. Trudge up along the short path through the waterfall, where you will be challenged for your physical capabilities as you grip on the hard rocks and climb up on the bamboo ladder to reach the top. Then, you will follow a small trail that will take you back to the Nam Ou river. Travel through the Nam Ou river on a boat to the secluded village of Ban Houay Goong, which is a traditional Khmu village that is along the side of the Nam Ou river. Once night approaches, you will spend the night at the comfortable homestay.
Day 5 - Nam Ou River / Muang Ngoi Explorer
After breakfast, you will hop on a local boat that will take you upriver through the serene Nam Ou river. Admire the beautiful landscapes that surround the Nam Ou river as you travel along the boat. The river will take you to a small town of Muang Ngoi after having a boat change at Nong Khiaw. The Muang Ngoi is a quaint little riverside village that seems to not be developed with modern inventions, such as internet access and the landline telephone. Get an authentic experience on how life is like before the wonders of modern invention, by exploring the village along the streets. Muang Ngoi is known for its scenic landscapes so take the opportunity to kick back and relax in the calming atmosphere. As the day approaches an end, you will head to the lovely Rattanavongsa Guesthouse to rest and sleep during the night.
Day 6 - Pak Ou Cave / Luang Prabang
After delighting yourself with a delicious breakfast, you will hop on a boat from Muang Ngoi to head to Nong Khiaw along the Nam Ou river. Upon arrival to the shores, travel through the roads on a private minivan, in the midst of natural beauty, from rising mountains and calming river. Along the way, you will at the famous Pak Ou river, that is located a stone’s throw away from the confluence of Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. The Pak Ou caves are well-known as the home of more than 4000 Buddha statues, scattered at every corner of the caves. The Buddha statues come in varying forms, in terms of shapes and sizes.
After exploring the dark caves, you will make your way to the famous “Whiskey Village” called the Ban Xang Hai. The villagers in the Ban Xang Hai are known to produce the famous rice whiskey, called lao-lao with the knowledge that has been passed down from generations. Discover a wide selection of handicrafts that are made by the villagers and burn a hole in your pocket by buying the goods. Then, you will head to the local restaurant to indulge in some delicious lunch, near the confluence of the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers. Say your final goodbyes before heading back to Luang Prabang, after an unforgettable experience.
