Explore the life of living in remote villages in Laos and discover its peaceful nature through activities like elephant riding, trekking and kayaking!
Day 1 - Jungle Trekking/Theung Village/Lao Sung Village/Khamu Village
You will meet your guide and transfer 25 minutes to the Adventure Camp which is a fantastic location in the middle of Laos’ nature and a huge mountain chain right in front of you. You will then cross the Nam Khan River via a local boat and begin to travel up to a mid-mountain Theung Village(Khamu).
Upon reaching the village, you can sense the peaceful environment around the village as the locals go on with their daily chores. You might spot a few curious faces directed at you, fret not as they are all friendly people. You can ask questions as you wander around the small village. Your guide would be more than happy to translate your questions. After stopping by briefly at the village, you will continue your journey and trek to a Lao Sung village (Hmong) situated on a lake. Just another short rest at the village you will begin the part of the trekking to reach your final destination. You will trek through along a steep, narrow, rocky track and share the path with passing villagers on their day’s pilgrimage to market.
We finally reach the Khamu village which is an isolated village high in the mountains after a long day. A delicious lunch will be served in a local, humble home. Some shy yet curious kids in the village might join the lunch to listen about your unique encounter in Laos. You can listen to the stories, play with the curious children or ask questions regarding their way of life up here. They are very warm people to communicate with. Enjoy your dinner in the village, explore and take in this amazing evening under the Laos sky deep in the Laos jungle.
Day 2 - Jungle Trekking/Elephant Riding/Tad Sae Waterfall/Kayaking
After having your breakfast, we will go for a 1.5-hour trek to the famous Tad Sae Waterfall. It is a spectacular natural wonder with streams of water cascading and making a loud thunderous sound when the streams collide. The waterfall has a few large pools below it that are fantastic to swim in amongst the cooling environment. You will then be introduced to protected Asian elephants in the project area and go out for a scenic ride on the elephants. You will get to experience a whole new perspective on the wonderful nature surrounding you. It is definitely a unique experience in a lifetime. Next, a boat will take you to the Tiger Trail Adventure Camp where we will prepare kayaks and set out on a 3-4 hour paddling trip downriver. The kayaking is suitable for inexperienced paddlers.
You will then end this adventure-filled tour with a transfer return to Luang Prabang mid-afternoon.
Low water season, February to July:
During the low water season, approximately February to July, Tad Sae Waterfall is not visited as it is dry. On day two we will hike from our homestay 1.5 hours directly to the Elephant Village where you will enjoy a great elephant riding and interaction experience. Afterwards, proceed to the Tiger Trail Adventure Camp to begin a slightly shorter kayaking route, as water flow is slower. Total paddling time is approximately 2.5 hours before meeting our driver for return transfer to Luang Prabang.
