Day 1 - Nong Khiaw / Nam Ou River / Lao Leu Village
Begin your adventure at Luang Prabang, by meeting your friendly guide and then heading out on a drive through picturesque sceneries that are near the Nam Ou river. You will head to the well-known town of Nong Khiaw, that is located in between the mountains and a stone’s throw away from the Nam Ou river. Along your journey to Nong Khiaw, you will make a stop at the Ban Na Nyang, which consist of the Lao Leu tribe people. The Ban Na Nyang village is known for its unique Lao Leu traditional-style houses and also producing stunning handicrafts. The village is the home of at least 500 people, that make a living from cotton weaving and also rice farming. Gain a better understanding on the art of weaving, which includes traditional dying process from the skilled villagers.
The Nong Khiaw town is even described as a haven for travellers as the town is amid striking natural sights, with towering mountains and verdant forests. Upon arrival, you will have time to explore the stunning town at your own pace to discover the culture and customs of the local people. Discover the traditional houses that are scattered all around the town, made out of bamboo walls that now boast modern satellites dishes atop the roofs. Delight yourself in the scrumptious local food for dinner, after a long day of exploration. Then, you will reside overnight at the Nong Khiaw Riverside Lodge, situated along the banks of the Nam Ou river amid forest-covered mountains.
Day 2 - Nam Ou River Cruise / Trekking / Caves / Muang Ngoi
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the Lodge before heading out to the Patok Cave that is a stone’s throw away from the Nong Khiaw. Historically, the Patok cave was utilized as a shelter during the Second Indochina War during the sixties, to evade against the bombs being dropped. The wall of the caves are deeply filled with an abundance of limestone deposits. After exploring the Patok cave, you will head on a ride along the river, on a traditional longtail boat upriver heading to Muang Ngoi. Explore the rustic little town of Muang Ngoi, that is located a the northern part of Laos. The Muang Ngoi is set amidst the stunning sceneries as the town is a stone’s throw away from the Nam Ou river. The town can only be reached by travelling across the river, which adds a unique feel to the journey. You will have ample of time to explore the stunning little town and experience the laid back nature of the Laos.
Explore the outskirts of the Muang Ngoi and discover a hidden cave that is surrounded by lush trees. Explore the dark caves that is located within the hill and climb along some rocks to reach at places within the cave. Venture along the beaten trails that will lead you to the villages that are a stone’s throw away from the Muang Ngoi. Take it easy as you explore the town and relax within the serene ambiance of the town. After an exhausting day of exploring Muang Ngoi, you will head to the Lattanavongsa guesthouse, where you will reside at for the rest of the night.
Day 3 - Morning River Cruise / Kayaking / 100 Waterfall Trek / Riverside Homestay
Prepare for your exciting adventure at the early hours of the morning by setting out on a private boat ride, heading to Nong Khiaw from Muang Ngoi. Aboard the kayaks that are along the banks of the Nam Ou River and head through the calm waters. Behold the stunning sights that surrounds the tributary river, through mountainous region with verdant trees that flourish in the region. Venture to the local Khmu village that is situated along the banks of the Nam Ou river. Explore the simple village and be welcomed by the affable villagers as they are engaged in their day-to-day tasks.
Your journey continues, along the beaten trails to the famous 100 Waterfall. Make sure to bring proper shoes, as the journey is about to get wet. Trudge up along the trails that will take you to the top of the waterfall. Challenge your limits as you grip along the hard rocks and climb up on the makeshift bamboo ladder to reach the peak of the waterfall. Stroll along the trail that will take you back to the serene riverside village, along the Nam Ou river. Head to the local homestay, where you will have an opportunity to gain an authentic cultural immersion into the lives of the Khmu village. You will be provided with a delicious dinner, that you will consume before heading to bed for a long night rest.
Day 4 - Kayaking / Pak Ou Cave / Whiskey Village / Luang Prabang
Awaken to the sounds of nature arising after a long night’s sleep and set out to complete your final kayaking trip along the stunning stretch of the Nam Ou river. Bask in the gorgeous sceneries that surrounds the Nam Ou river, before arriving to a Khmu village. Delve into the Khmu village that is the humble abode of about 50 families that live harmoniously with one another, along the river banks. Explore the isolated village by strolling along the roads and interact with the friendly locals that reside in the village.
You will then ride on a truck that will take you to the popular Pak Ou cave, that is located at the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong rivers. The Pak Ou caves contains an abundance of Buddha statues, in different shapes and sizes. The cave was documented to have more than 4000 Buddha statues that are littered all over the cave and there is a belief amongst the locals that the Buddha statues are centuries old. From the Pak Ou cave, you will then head to the Ban Xang Hai village that is known to produce the delectable rice whiskey, called lao-lao. The lao-lao rice whiskey is traditionally made, with the knowledge that have been passed down for their ancestors. The village is also known to make beautifully-crafted handicrafts so take the opportunity to browse and explore a wide array of handicrafts. Then, you will board the truck again and bid farewell to the Ban Xang Hai village before heading back to the ancient city of Luang Prabang.
