Day 1 - Mountain Bike / Elephant Riding / Boat Ride / Tad Sae Waterfall / Trek / Homestay
Your day begins by heading to the local bicycle shop to be properly fitted onto one of the quality mountain bicycles at the ancient city of Luang Prabang. Leave the bustling city of Luang Prabang behind and head to the depths of the lush forest to encounter the Wat Phon Phao. The Wat Phon Phao is located atop a hill amid beautiful trees overlooking the ancient city of Luang Prabang. The Wat Phon Phao has a spectacular golden stupa is one of the few places to have nuns that roam the grounds. Your journey continues to the isolated village of Ban Phanom, that is a stone’s throw away from the Wat Phon Phao temple. The Ban Phano village is well-known for its beautiful silk and cotton textiles, with a weaving process that has been around for a long time. The stunning textiles even caught the eye of the King of Laos, at one point in history and the King purchased an abundance of textiles from the villagers.
Venture further into the trails that will take you to the grave site of Henri Mahout, who was a French explorer in the 19th century and passed away in Luang Prabang. Mahout was responsible for shedding some light on the downfall of Angkor Wat to the Western civilization. Travel through the last stretch of trail that will take you to the shores of Nam Khan river, where an isolated camp is located. From the camp, your journey continues to the spectacular Tad Sae waterfall. The Tad Sae waterfall may not be tall but there are many streams of water that flows through to the pool at the bottom. Enjoy a delicious lunch and relax in the serene ambience of the waterfall. Trudge along the trail near the Tad Sae waterfall to discover more natural pools and ride atop the docile elephants to explore the surrounding environment. Carry on your journey through the beaten trails that will take you across the vast expanse of rice paddy fields and thick jungles to a serene Khmu village. During the evening, you will explore the serene Khmu village and meet with the local people to understand their culture and customs. Immerse yourself in the local culture when you reside at a homestay overnight, located at the base of the limestone mountains,
Day 2 - Big Jungle Trek / Hmong and Khmu Villages / Homestay
After consuming a delightful breakfast, you will head to the trail that is surrounded by stunning sceneries in the area. Along the hike, you will encounter towering limestone mountains that are blanketed by verdant trees. You will approach a remote Hmong and Khmu village, near a serene lake. Feel invigorated as you stroll along the well-trodden path that is widely used by the locals that live in the vicinity of the trails. Gain some insight on the traditional lifestyles of the local Hmong and Khmu people and other aspects of their minority culture by interacting with the locals. By the late afternoon, you will venture to the overnight homestay that is located within the village, where you will have a chance to delve into the local culture of the Khmu and Hmong people. After delighting in a delicious dinner, you will head to bed and rest for the entire night.
Day 3 - Jungle Trek / Kayaking on the Nam Ou river
Awake in the serene atmosphere of the homestay and indulge in a delicious breakfast, as a way to start the day. You will begin your journey by bidding farewell to the friendly villagers and starting your trek off the mountain, heading to the Nam Khan river. Bask in the stunning nature of the surroundings that is completely unspoilt by the hands of men. You will arrive at an isolated camp that is along the Nam Khan river, to start your exhilarating kayaking expedition.
Explore the countryside during your kayaking trip, where you will pass by thick clusters of banana and teak trees that congregate along the Nam Ou river. Catch the sights of wide stretch of rice paddy fields and pineapple plantations that are aligned along the Nam Ou river. Stumble upon the Lao Loum and Theung villages that are along the Nam Ou river and gaze at the villagers that are working along the sides of the river. Along the way, you will be provided with a delicious lunch to replenish your energy to carry on with your adventure. By afternoon, your adventure ends and you will prepare to depart from the calm Nam Ou river and head back to the ancient city of Luang Prabang.
