Day 1 - Naaluang Trek/ Multi-ethnic Hike
Start your day at the ancient city of Luang Prabang at a bike shop, where you will be fitted on the appropriate-sized mountain bicycle. Soar through the streets on the mountain bicycle and past through the scenic landscapes that are breathtaking and it will leave you in awe. Venture along the trails that is within the vicinity of the Nam Ou river amid tall limestone karsts. The Nam Ou river is one of the major tributaries to the Mekong river, which is the 12th longest river in the world and the Mekong river crosses other countries in Asia.
Stumble upon countless of flora and fauna that exist within these lands, which has been documented to be more than 80 species of fishes and with more than 20 species that is believed to only exist in the Nam Ou river. Other animal species survive in the area, which includes birds, otters and other reptile species. Make a stop at a Hmong village, where you will see the friendly smiles of the villagers. Explore the stunning village through the narrow streets and catch the sight of the hardworking villagers tend to their daily tasks. After an exhausting biking journey, you will head to the comfortable homestay in the Hmong village to rest and to have a delicious dinner.
Day 2 - Jungle Trek / Cruise to a Riverside Village Homestay
Begin your journey on the second day of your trip by first consuming a scrumptious breakfast and savour in the unique taste of the food before commencing your biking journey to the city of Nong Khiaw. The Nong Khiaw town offers an abundance of stunning sights as the town is situated along the west bank of the Nam Ou river and positioned in between the towering limestone karsts that are enveloped in mists. Explore the roads of Nong Khiaw to discover a combination of a town maintaining its traditional way of life and hints of modern luxuries, which can be seen along the rudimentary houses that have satellite dishes atop their roofs.
Experience the laidback nature of the town and interact with the friendly locals to learn about the culture and customs of the local people. You will have the chance to sample the delectable local food for dinner that will surely stimulate your taste buds, after a tiring day. End the day by staying overnight at the Nong Khiaw Riverside Lodge that is situated along the banks of the Nam Ou river amid the lush jungle-covered mountains that tower over the river. Being away from the hectic cities will surely allow you to have a good night's rest within the serene ambience of the rustic little town.
Day 3 - River Explorer/ Caves / Waterfalls
Rise and begin your day by having a scrumptious breakfast at the Lodge before heading out to the river for a boat ride upriver on a traditional longtail boat. Depart from Nong Khiaw by travelling on the Nam Ou river, where you will pass an abundance of natural beauty. The total distance of the entire journey will be 19 kilometres before making a stop at Muang Ngoi. The small village of Muang Ngoi is set amid idyllic landscapes as the town is situated along the banks of the Nam Ou river and it is safely nestled in between towering limestone crags. Interact with the affable villagers that still hold traditional values and learn about their culture.
Explore the stunning village by strolling along the beaten roads and observe the happy children playing amongst one another. Take the trails that will bring you to a hidden cave that was once used as a shelter by the civilians against bombs during the 1960s. You will be led by your guide to the neighbouring villages by trudging along the trails from the Muang Ngoi village. The serene ambience of the small village makes it the perfect spot to sit back and relax, whilst taking in the beautiful landscapes. After a long day, you will retire overnight in the Lattanavongsa guesthouse to prepare for your exciting adventure tomorrow!
Day 4 - Kayaking / 100 Waterfall Trek / Riverside Homestay
Start the day with a hearty breakfast before heading out on a full-day filled with an active adventure. The journey begins with a private boat ride from Muang Ngoi to Nong Khiaw, which will be your starting point for your kayaking adventure. Travel through the Nam Ou river on the kayak in the calm waters, where you will bask in the serene ambience of the river. Gaze at the stunning landscapes along the Nam Ou river before heading to the Khmu village, that is located along the banks of the Nam Ou river. Learn the culture and customs of the Khmu people from your friendly guide and by meeting with the affable villagers.
Embark on the trails to the famous 100 Waterfalls that is in the midst of the lush green jungles. Take a relaxing dip into the cold pool that will surely soothe your muscles after the exhausting trek along the trails. Be prepared to get wet as you trudge up along the waterfall by gripping the hard rocks and by climbing the sturdy bamboo ladder. After a thrilling adventure, you will head back to the riverside village to the local homestay and immerse yourself in the culture of the local people. Delight yourself in the delicious dinner and taste the unique flavours of Laos before retiring for the night.
Day 5 - Kayaking / Pak Ou Cave / Whiskey Village / Departure
Awake in the early hours of the morning for your final kayak trip along the Nam Ou river amid the picturesque sceneries. Along the way, you will visit the Khmu villages that is the home of around 50 Khmu families that reside in the village along the river banks. Admire the marvellous beauty that surrounds the remote village and the calm waters of the Nam Ou river.
You will ride along the truck that will take you to the back to Luang Prabang. Venture to the Pak Ou caves that is located along the confluence of the Nam Ou and Mekong rivers. The highly respected Pak Ou caves are filled with an abundance of Buddha statues that are in a wide array of sizes and shapes. Indulge in some delicious Lao food at a local restaurant before heading to the Ban Xiang Hai. The Ban Xiang Hai, also known as the “Whiskey Village" is famous for their delectable Lao rice whiskey called lao-lao. Browse around a wide array of locally-produced handicrafts that are made by the skilled artisans in the village. Then, you will board the truck again and bid farewell to the friendly villagers before heading back to Luang Prabang.
