Rumble through the Benom range in a 4WD to reach Lata Berembun waterfall where you can picnic or swim, and head to Fraser’s Hill for a day tour of its attractions, then end your trip with a visit to a tofu factory and a peanut factory.
Go on an off-road journey through the Benom range in a trusty strong 4WD vehicle. Travel through the ups and downs of the hills that make up the range’s terrain to reach Lata Berembun waterfall, one of Pahang’s best natural treasures. Even though the waterfall is hidden away deep in the heart of the range, visitors will come from all over Malaysia and even Singapore just to witness its beauty and bathe in its waters. The journey should take about 45 minutes, but the scenic view along the way will not make it a boring one.
The waterfall’s location is at a relatively high altitude, allowing for it to have a cooler climate, enhanced by its dense, untouched rainforest. The thick foliage of trees is able to keep the majority of the sun’s harsh rays out, allowing visitors to rest in the shade as they picnic or swim. Be greeted by the constant refreshing breeze that occurs from the impact of the cascading waters crashing down onto boulders. The entire place is shrouded in a light, cool mist that is sure to freshen you up.
Flowing down over huge granite boulders and creating 7 or so cascades, the water collects in a rather deep and large pool. The cascades are strong and the water is cold. If you wish to swim, it is highly recommended that you wear a life jacket for your own safety. If you decide to have a picnic, the horizontal rocks that line the perimeter of the waterfall’s pool should create adequate picnic spots, and the backdrop of the scenic greenery and waterfall and the white noise of the rushing water will create a relaxing atmosphere.
At Fraser’s Hill, you will be brought on a day tour to visit some of the attractions that the hill resort is home to. Known for having over 250 species of birds, many visitors who come here come with the intention of bird-watching or participating in the annual Fraser’s Hill International Bird Race, where international teams compete with local teams in a race to sight and identify as many bird species as possible. Other attractions at the hill resort are the Paddock, Taman Awam, Sports Complex and Bird Centre, among several others. All the attractions vary in nature and make for an interesting day tour.
Go and visit two factories while you’re in the area, too. There are a tofu factory and peanut factory that are both very good at what they do. The tofu factory has been in business for a long time and has been passed down from generation to generation. Over 200 kilograms of tofu puffs are made from soaked and crushed soybeans, which are then pressed to rid them of their water and fried lightly to prepare them for the market where they will be sold. The peanuts at the peanut factory are of high quality and are still dried out using the traditional method of using a brick kiln and burning wood.
