Visit Semenggoh Nature Reserve, a 500-year old Bidayuh longhouse, Fairy Cave and Wind Cave, and Matang Wildlife Centre on this adventure that you will take you on activities such as kayaking, off-road biking and exploring!
Day 1 - Semenggoh Nature Reserve / Penrissen Range / Longhouse
Day one of your adventure starts off with you being driven to Semenggoh Nature Reserve where orangutans rescued from captivity are free to roam around in an enclosed area of the rainforest while being rehabilitated. At scheduled feeding times, these orangutans will emerge hungrily from their high branches and down to the feeding platform where assorted fruits will be spread out. These great apes are extremely smart animals, and beautiful to look at, too, with their reddish-brown fur and expressive faces.
Day 2 - Rainforest River Kayaking / Gold Mine Exploration / Siniawan
On day two, make sure you eat enough at breakfast in preparation for the day’s activities. Today’s activities that are lined up for you are kayaking, cave exploration and cycling. Paddle through the peaceful rainforest along the idle Sarawak River shaded by the abundance of trees along its banks. Let yourself be lulled into a state of tranquillity by the sounds of gentle, rippling water and sweetly chirping birds. After kayaking, you will cycle along a beautiful stretch of countryside to reach the historical gold mining town of Bau.
After a well-deserved lunch, go exploring in some hidden gold mines and take on the off-road paths of a spectacular limestone karst landscape that’s full of surprises. Along the way, you will stop by two caves: Wind Cave and Fairy Cave. Wind Cave is the darker cave of the two and is home to several species of bats and swiftlets. Fairy Cave is enchanting with its interiors of stalagmites and stalactites. Your final stop of the day is at the unique shophouse town of Siniawan where you will dine and spend the night in a shoplot guesthouse.
Day 3 - Local Kopitiam / Matang Wildlife Centre
Experience breakfast like a local as you slurp up traditionally-prepared noodles at an old-fashioned coffee shop (kopitiam) in town. The majority of today will consist of you riding across various terrain and even across a jungle stream! Bike across a secure suspension bridge and go on a ride on a traditional boat ferry. Seek refuge from the afternoon sun as you bike along shaded back roads and stop for a breather at a jungle waterfall.
Refresh yourself with a rewarding dip in the cool water and have your lunch. When you’re done, pack up and leave for the Matang Wildlife Centre where you will get to see more orangutans. This time, there are also other animals around such as the adorable Sun Bears, Sambar deer and the majestic hornbills. Snap some photos of them to remember your trip to Borneo by, then head back to your hotel in the provided car transfer.
