Go on a rare experience of dam exploration journey on the world’s tallest concrete-faced rockfill dam and discover more about the surrounding ecosystem and hydroelectric system of the dam.
How often do you get to visit and explore a hydroelectric dam? Most of you may have answered with none at all. Well, you are in luck! This one-of-a-kind dam exploration tour is designed to give you a taste on how a dam operates and what specifics are involved in generating and running a hydroelectric power station. The towering Bakun Dam was first constructed in 2009 and it was not until 2011 that the construction project was finished. Interestingly, the plant was originally meant primarily for Peninsular Malaysia and not for Sarawak (where the plant was located). The transfer of the electric power is to be conducted via a 730 km overhead HVDC transmission lines in East Malaysia, 670 km of undersea HDVC cable and 300 km of HDVC transmission line in Peninsular Malaysia. More interestingly, your tour will take you around the vicinity and into the interior of the dam itself. You will have many chances to look around the world’s tallest concrete-faced rockfill dam (CFRD) in the world.
