Tour Description:

Once in Malaysia, it is truly a challenge to decide which food to try with the limited time you have. Widely recognised as being a melting pot of cultures, Malaysian cuisine is a blend of different cultural backgrounds, utilising elements from one another, yet remaining unique and true to their roots. To understand Malaysian cuisine, you would first have to understand the local ingredients used as well as the different flavours that make up such a tantalising cuisine. What better way to do that than to take a Malaysian tour, something that even Gordon Ramsey himself has done.

Start off your cooking tour with a visit to Teluk Bahang; a typical fishing village, located on Penang Island and is also known as ‘Bay of Heat Wave’ in reference to the high temperature of the sea breeze that blows onto the coast. It is here where you will discover the freshest of ingredients in the form of meat, fish, seafood, vegetables and other viands. Fresh fruits are also sold just right at the corner where you will get to compare and discover local Malaysian fruits. The locals rely heavily on these ingredients to prepare their meals on a day-to-day basis.

Strap on your apron and learn up a few authentic Malaysian recipes through a cooking school situated within the Tropical Spice Garden; a large area hosting a variety of spices and herbs used in many local dishes. You will get the opportunity to prepare all the ingredients for the dishes from scratch, including gathering a range of herbs and spices from the garden. Experience working with traditional cooking utensils such as pestles and mortars. Absorb all the knowledge which would be imparted by expert local chefs in order to create a memorable, enjoyable and informative trip. At last, fill up your tummy with a hearty lunch before you bid farewell.
