Trek your way up the scenic mountain trails and sleep under the stars as you admire the beauty of the open sky at night.
Located in Rao Nan, in Tan Hoa Village, the Tu Lan Cave System comprises over 10 caves in its entirety. The caves themselves are fairly recent when it comes to their discovery - some were found in 1992 while others were discovered in 2012. Boasting the deepest Karst Doline of Southeast Asia, breathtaking natural wonders and stunning jungle, the site is a favourite for many travellers and locals alike. Ready yourself as we bring you into the journey of discovering this young and outstanding cave system.
Day 1 - Phong Nha / Tan Hoa / Tu Lan
We will first make our way to the village of Tan Hoa to collect your gear and attend the safety briefing for the journey. Check out the gear and get a feel for the equipment as you will be using them for your exciting adventure ahead. Once you sign the Release Form, it is time to go full blast on our journey. First up, you will start easy. Walking 2.5 km across fields of peanuts, giant water buffaloes and tall corn stalks, you will make your way down Rao Nan River. During this time, do enjoy the scenic view of lush and fertile crops growing as far as the eyes can see. Looking at the verdant sight, it feels like going on a historical trip to the past when the fields are just as green and life much simpler. Past the river, the trek accelerates as you climb 30 m up a rocky hill to a small jungle opening. Once you reach the opening, you will have the chance to catch your breath before descending 100m down to Hung Ton Valley.
By this time, your stomach will be rumbling for lunch and that is exactly what we will do. Feed yourself some good amount of carbohydrate and protein for the journey ahead as we go on from Hung Ton Valley and over to Mango Mountain before going back down to Tu Lan Valley. Not long after Tu Lan Valley, your campsite will be within reach and you will see the beautiful waterfall close by. Yes, you can indeed swim on the waterfall. If you prefer a bit more walk, you can also explore and swim through Ken Cave just next to the campsite. After the fun dip, it is time for some scrumptious BBQ dinner before you go to sleep on the hammocks tied between trees.
Day 2 - Tu Lan / Tan Hoa / Phong Nha
After a hearty breakfast, it is time for even more cave exploration. After a short swim across the river and into the heart of Tu Lan Cave System, you will see the azure blue lagoon entrance. Once inside the cave, make your way downstream for 180 m through Tu Lan Cave entrance. From there on, make your way up to where the exit is. You will need to squeeze yourself and climb some distance before you will be able to see the exit. Once you see it, trek your way to the dry entrance of Kim Cave and enjoy the natural window in Kim Cave. Afterwards, you will continue with a swim and trek through Hang Kim to To Mo valley.
Oh yes, you will get wet so ready yourself for the swimming involved in this journey. On the flipside, you will get to refresh yourself with different terrain and challenges along the cave exploration journey. You will also be pleased to learn that the swim and walking will be worth it, especially since we have prepared some delicious lunch by Hung Ton Cave mouth waterfall. Once you finish lunch, walk another few dry tracks before you will again, yes you guessed it, swim through Hung Ton wet cave. Resurface and you will again explore the dry passage while trekking down to Hung Ton Valley.
Once you arrive in Tan Hoa, you will be served your well earned cold drink and get to wash your sweat on a shower. After you finish cleaning yourself up, we will depart for Phong Nha at 4 P.M. on a half an hour journey. Upon arrival, unwind and relax as you finish your trip.
