Be prepared to discover the Southern Islands of Langkawi such as Tuba Island, Dayang Bunting Island, Singa Besar Island and Beras Basah Island, all of which offer various interesting activities to do such as swimming, eagle-watching and snorkelling!
Cenang Beach is said to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Malaysia, if not the most beautiful. With palm trees fringing its gentle curve of a beach, it opens up to a view of the glittering ocean and the many islands floating in the distance. Various types of water sports activities such as jet skiing, banana boating and speed boating. From this beach, you will ride on a jet ski to Eagle Square, where a giant sculpture of an eagle poised to take flight sits. At the square, there are pretty miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, and one can watch as ferries drift across the water or take postcard-perfect holiday pictures with the eagle sculpture.
After Eagle Square, you will be brought to Tuba Island, which is the only other inhabited island besides the island of Pulau Langkawi itself. Its name comes from the tuba roots of the tuba plant that is a common species of flora here, and its roots are used to catch fish. Tuba Island is a traditional fishing village and its community thrives without the modernity of heavy development. The heads of households are often either fishermen or farmers. The flora and fauna on the island are abundant and remain mostly untouched, as the inhabitants of the island are rather strict with access to areas for fear that irresponsible tourists will destroy the ecosystem.
Your tour will continue as you cruise along a mangrove river where the roots of mangrove trees are visible along the river banks. The bountiful leaves of the mangrove trees along your sides provide an immersive, serene atmosphere as you make your way gently down the river. Cruise by a few limestone islands as well, their unique rock formations towering overhead with tufts of plants growing out from their sides. Get off your jet ski and explore the beautiful limestone caves that sit upon these islands, as this is an opportunity not to be missed. You will also get the opportunity to visit a remote island with a secluded beach for some swimming and snorkelling in the peaceful waters. After you’re done with these shorter activities, head onwards to more sights for more excitement!
At Intan Island (Diamond Island), you will find immaculate, white sandy beaches and bright waters reflecting the sun’s rays. Let the waters lure you in for a cooling swim as you take in the sights of an island uninhabited and undisturbed by development. This island is a natural beauty, with massive ancient trees still growing in the central part of the island, and coconut palms swaying along the shores of its beaches. The next activity waiting for you is at Dayang Bunting Island (Pregnant Maiden Island), where you can participate in freshwater lake swimming. Lake Guillermard is the largest freshwater lake in Malaysia and is part of the second largest island within the archipelago of Langkawi.
Not only is Dayang Bunting Island famous for its lake and legend; its mangrove forest swamps, lush rainforests and thriving abundance of wildlife are also worthy of mention. These sites are good for some sightseeing, where one might be able to spot some of the 90 species of birds found on the island, including the hornbill, kingfisher, drongo and woodpecker. You can also sightsee on the waters surrounding the island, where you will ride your jet ski through an area full of small islands known as “The Fjords”. Here, steep cliffs tower overhead you along the inlet and provide you with a gorgeous view all around.
Singa Besar Island (Big Lion Island) is next on your itinerary, and here you can catch the opportunity to watch a live eagle-feeding session where dozens of white-bellied fish eagles and kite eagles swoop down at the perfect speed to pick off chicken meat on the surface of the water. At certain times of the day, feeders will throw out the meat into the water. On land, you will find the island’s large wildlife sanctuary, where macaques, mousedeer, hornbills and peacocks make their home in the dense forest.
To end your tour, your guide will take you to Beras Basah Island (Wet Rice Island), where you can go snorkelling in its beautiful blue waters. Swim away from shore and towards slightly deeper waters where you will find a colourful reef with a bar of unique coral along it. Watch as fish glide through the soft coral and play with their friends, some travelling through the underwater world in masses. You can choose to dry off on the beach while rewarding yourself with the pleasant scenery of the land, as certified by past visitors who have likened its beauty to that of beaches found in movies.
