Take in the lush rainforest as you explore nature trails during the day and night and put your courage to the test as you attempt the Canopy Walkway!
Day 1 – Lahad Datu / Danum Valley
Prepare yourself for an exciting ride as we head towards Borneo Rainforest Lodge. Danum Valley is a natural ecological paradise that is the largest protected lowland dipterocarp rainforest in Sabah; spanning an astounding 438 square kilometres that are home to rare animals such as the Bornean orangutans, gibbons, mouse deer, East Sumatran rhinoceros and clouded leopards. At approximately 12 pm, we will break for lunch and settle in before heading to the Conference Room for a briefing. Come mid afternoon, you will be introduced to the forest the old fashion way, by trekking through nature trails and even braving the Canopy Walkway—26 metre high and 300 metre long—for an up-close view of the pristine rainforest. As the day draws to a close, we will replenish our energies with dinner at the Lodge to prepare for the last adventure of the day: a night drive in an open-top vehicle in search of Nocturnal creatures.
Day 2 – Danum Valley
The dawn of a new day brings even more exciting adventures. After breakfast, we will push off for some guided jungle activities (approximately 8:30 am). The first leg of the expedition requires us to trek to an ancient Kadazandusun Burial site via the “Coffin Trail”. This journey is a 3km return trip which involves a 40-minute ascend to the “View Point”, where you will enjoy a magnificent view of the rainforest from an elevated position. Then, we will descend to the “Jacuzzi Pools”, enchanting natural pools for a refreshing dip before returning to the lodge for lunch. Then, the Riverside trekking activity commences and we will have to traipse through muddy grounds. Hold onto your horses as that’s not all; we will finish off the day with a night jungle walk on the quest to search for more nocturnal animals once our bellies are full with dinner.
Day 3 – Danum Valley / Lahad Datu
To begin the last day, enjoy a hearty breakfast before gearing up for our next activity: water tubing at the Danum River (this is optional). After lunch, it is time to check out and depart for Lahad Datu, a journey that would take 2.5 hours. Take this opportunity to rest your sore body and just recount the experiences of the past few days before reaching your hotel.
