See amazing sights when visiting the largest lizard species in the world, the Komodo Dragon, at Rinca Island, and go snorkel at a cotton candy coloured beach, Pink Beach!
Day 1 – Denpasar/ Labuan Bajo/ Bidari or Sature Island
Upon arrival at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo, you’ll be greeted by a representative and then brought to your hotel. After you have checked in, you’ll take a quick breather for lunch before you board a boat headed to Bidari Island. Enjoy the soothing smell of the salt water while you go on a 30-minute boat ride to the island. At the island, you’ll get to play around in the crystalline waters or go snorkelling in the ocean to look for some vibrant marine life. If you’re still tired from the flight, you can just lay back and relax on the warm sandy beach. Take a nap or get a tan, just relax and forget all your worries while you lie on the beach with the soothing sounds of the waves to calm you. Then be brought back to your hotel to take a break for the rest of the day and have a good night’s sleep to save your energy for the next day's activities.
Day 2 – Labuan Bajo/ Rinca Island/ Komodo Island
Wake up for a delicious breakfast at the hotel before setting off to your first destination: Rinca Island. Take a boat to the island which is 2 and a half hour’s journey away from Labuan Bajo. Trek through the island’s forest and explore the dry forests of the island that play home to many types of wildlife. One of the most notable animals you can find on this island is the Komodo Dragons. These formidable predators are the largest living species of lizards in the world, growing as big as 3 meters. Watch these creatures from afar as they possess a dangerous tail whip and venomous bite, so keep your distance and try not to agitate them.
Go back out to see on your open-deck boat to Kalong Island in the Komodo Islands for an amazing sight you won’t want to miss. Gaze at the hundreds of flying foxes emerge from the mangrove trees as dusk descends upon you. Flying foxes refer to a type of huge bats that are native to the islands and like most bats are nocturnal, and come out for their hunt at night. A beautiful sunset serves as your backdrop while on your boat trip as the colony of flying foxes sets out for their hunt. Dinner will be served on the boat as well and retire for the night.
Day 3 – Komodo/ Pink Beach/ Manta Point/ Labuan Bajo
Start your day by trekking on Komodo Island and look out for the infamous Komodo Dragons. With the help of your guide, you’ll be able to explore the jungles of Komodo Islands and the many diverse wildlife there. Besides Komodo Dragons, the island is abundant with many different kinds of animals such as deer, wild pigs and tropical birds like a cockatoo. Once the trek is over, get back on the boat to get ready to go to Pink Beach.
Pink beach is a major attraction at Komodo Island and is popular amongst tourists due to the natural phenomenon that creates its baby pink sand beaches. It’s one of only seven pink beaches in the world! This cotton candy sand occurs due to microscopic animals called Foraminifera that produce red pigments on coral reefs. Tiny fragments of the coral wash up on shore and mix with the white sand making a soft pink colour. You can also snorkel and swim in the clear waters at the beach or just relax on the pink shore.
Get up close and personal with the gentle manta rays when you sail towards Manta Point. You can choose to either snorkel in the waters to get really close to these sea creatures or if you’re not feeling up to it try and catch a glimpse of them from the boat itself. Once your stomach starts to rumble lunch will be provided on the boat. In the late afternoon, sail back to Labuan Bajo harbour to be transferred back to your hotel for dinner and good night’s sleep.
Day 4 – Labuan Bajo/ Denpasar
After having a nice breakfast, go on a short sightseeing tour, your first stop being Batu Cermin (also known as Mirror Stone) Cave. Batu Cermin is a limestone cave with a big hole in it where magnificent rays of light will stream in and reflect off the slick rock surfaces of the cave’s insides. The grotto is 75 meters large and features amazing stalactites and stalagmites. Once you’re done with Batu Cermin, you’ll be brought to the local market to browse through some local goods and produce before saying goodbye to Indonesia as you go to the airport at Denpasar.
