Explore the culture and custom of different Lao Cai hill tribes while you trek from Thanh Kim all the way to Ban Ho Village.
This tour will take you 25 kilometres to the south of Sapa straight toward Thanh Kim Village. When you are close by, get off the car and begin your trek to Thanh Kim. In order to get to the village, you will need to trek through Muong Hoa Valley, a deep picturesque valley well-known for its lush paddy fields and mysterious carved stones scattered around the thick bushes. Along the way, you will also pass by the famous Lao Chai, Ta Van and Su Pan Villages, home to the Black Hmong, Red Dao and Giay tribes respectively. Be sure to enjoy the wonderful landscape of Sapa in its fullest before continuing your journey to Thanh Phu bridge. Interestingly, this bridge connects the town of Sapa with Ban Ho, Thanh Kim, Thanh Phu and Su Pan, acting as a vital lifeline for these rural villages in their socio-economic development.
The village of Thanh Kim is left largely untouched even amidst the rapid rate of modernization going around the countryside. This beautiful Sapa jewel is home to the Red Dao, Hmong, and Kinh tribes living harmoniously with one another, with the Red Dao making up a whopping 77% of the village population. When visiting the village, you will encounter women dressed in their traditional vibrant costumes and a red headscarf busily tending to their fields. Some of them are shy, but most of the villagers are friendly and hospitable so feel free to strike up a chat whenever you wish to. The Red Dao tribe is well-known for its meticulous brocade and herbal bath so do not miss out on the chance to buy one or two brocade for your friends and family, or simply relax your tired muscles and treat your skin to a healthy herbal bath along the way. Come noon, you will have your lunch on top of a hill overlooking Ban Ho Village, your next stop of the excursion.
Follow the gentle streams of Muong Bo river towards Ban Ho Village on a light trek of your own. The route leading to Ban Ho is winding and could get slightly challenging. However, it is definitely worth the difficult walk. Lying about 25 kilometres to the southwest of Sapa in a flat valley, Ban Ho offers a breathtaking view of fertile fields, at least 3 majestic waterfalls and the quaint forest surrounding of the village. It is home to the Hmong, Dao, and Tay tribes with the Tay making up most of the village population. Ban Ho is also warmer than other areas of Sapa, so you can try swimming in the streams for extra fun. Be sure to also spare the time to take part in the local daily activities to better connect with local residents and learn more about their daily toil before you conclude your tour.
