Tour Description:

Day 1 - Kuala Lumpur / Kuala Tahan Jetty / Mutiara Taman Negara Resort

Your adventure begins with you leaving Hotel Istana Kuala Lumpur in a van headed for Kuala Tembeling Jetty. At Kuala Tembeling, register for an Entry Permit and a Camera License with the Department of Wildlife before proceeding. A boat will take you from Kuala Tembeling to your chalet at Mutiara Taman Negara Resort. It is up to you how you would like to make use of your time in the afternoon.

A video show is held at 5:00 pm, and it will showcase the variety of flora and fauna that reside within Taman Negara and contribute to its interesting ecosystem. After the video show is over, you can head to Seri Mutiara Restaurant for your buffet dinner. Eat up and enjoy your food, then head out into the jungle in the dark of night together with your Nature Guide.

In the jungle, nocturnal wildlife comes out to play. Experience the unique atmosphere of the rainforest at night with your enhanced senses of hearing and smell. Insects and animals venture out under the safe cover of night to forage for food, and amongst them, you might spot some giant millipedes crawling around and some wild boars and deer rustling the bushes. Rarer sightings are those of tapirs, but if very fortunate, you might well see one on your trek!

Day 2 - Kumbang Hide / Night Wildlife Viewing

You can have your breakfast at Seri Mutiara Restaurant at 7:30 am, and go down to the Department of Wildlife at 8:30 am to declare your belongings so that you may be able to bring them with you into the jungle. The trek from the resort to Kuala Trenggan will commence at 9:30 am. Carry on through the trek and replenish your energy with lunch en route.

Expect to arrive at Kumbang Hide for your overnight stay at around 3:30 pm. Dinner will be prepared by the guide, and once night truly falls, certain animals will make their way to the salt lick. Sambar deer, Barking deer and tapirs are common sightings in the area as they seek out salt deposits to get their mineral supplement. Don’t fret if you miss them the first few times, throughout the night, they will frequent the salt lick again as long as they remain undisturbed.

Day 3 - Gua Kepayang Besar / Gua Kepayang Kecil

Get ready for a day of trekking and cave-exploring! Your adventure begins after breakfast and starts with a trek from Kumbang Hide to two limestone caves – Gua Kepayang Besar and Gua Kepayang Kecil. Be awed by the sheer size of Gua Kepayang Besar that is able to accommodate well over a hundred people in its chamber.

A tent will be set up for you to spend your night in. The squeaking of bats and clicking of swiftlets as they echolocate will provide background noise as you go about your nightly activities. Lunch and dinner will be prepared by your guide.

Day 4 - Kuala Keniam / Gua Daun Menari / Gua Luas

Breakfast is provided by your good guide, and you will begin your trek away from Gua Kepayang Besar. Trek towards Kuala Keniam and make stops by Gua Daun Menari and Gua Luas to check them out. At Gua Daun Menari, witness leaves perform a dance for you at the mouth of the cave if there is a breeze that picks them up. Look up at the roof of the cave and see a mass of Roundleaf bats roosting away from the light of day.

Gua Luas is an uphill trek to Bukit Batu Luas, the tallest of all limestone hills in the vicinity. After visiting it, you will continue on your trek to Kuala Keniam, where a boat will bring you back to the resort. A packed lunch is provided to nourish you on the trip. The next activity on the list is the rapids shooting between Kuala Trenggan and Kuala Tahan, where your boatman will navigate through seven mild rapids. Expect to get wet, so be sure that you make the necessary preparations in advance so your belongings don’t get ruined!

A visit to an Orang Asli settlement might be on the itinerary if the situation allows for it. Make some new friends who could teach you skills that have been lost through modernization! After your visit, the boat trip will end at late noon, back at the resort. Check-in, unpack and unwind, then have yourself a hearty buffet dinner at Seri Mutiara Restaurant.

Day 5 - Teresek Hill / Canopy Walkway / Lata Berkoh

At 8:00 am head down to Seri Mutiara Restaurant for your breakfast and stock up on your energy before the jungle trek to Teresek Hill and the Canopy Walkway. The trek will take a few hours, and those few hours will be well-spent amongst nature. Teresek Hill is home to a dense population of rainforest growth, and the canopy will provide plenty of shade as you make your way up the hill. At the top of the hill, look for Gunung Tahan’s summit and take all the pictures you want!

The Canopy Walkway is a rope bridge that runs along the canopy of trees, and a walk along it is definitely an adventure on its own. The sea of green around you is a sight to behold, and to be suspended high off the ground can be refreshing for some. Stock up again on your energy levels with lunch at Seri Mutiara Restaurant, then embark on a boat trip to Lata Berkoh at 2:30 pm.

There, cascading waterfalls and natural pools await you. Rejuvenate yourself with a well-deserved swim or dip in the water. It’s a natural spa for those who are optimistic enough. After the earlier activities of today, the rest of the day is meant to help you wind down before your trip back home tomorrow. End your night with a buffet dinner at Seri Mutiara Restaurant.

Day 6 - Kuala Tahan Jetty / Kuala Lumpur

Your final day at the resort starts off with a breakfast at Seri Mutiara Restaurant, then you will pack up and check-out of your chalet. In the afternoon, say your last goodbyes to beautiful nature, and depart by bus to Kuala Lumpur from Kuala Tahan.

• Please bring a change of clothes of T-shirts, long or short pants, swimwear and towel. Small rucksack for the trek, hat, raincoat, track shoes, sandals, insect repellent, sun protection lotion (for sun sensitive skin) and torchlight. Fishing rod (optional).
• Proceed to the Department of Wildlife to register and to obtain necessary permits and licenses
• The rainy season is from middle November to middle/end of January. During the rainy season, some of the activities may be cancelled for safety purposes
• The boat ride to and from Kuala Tembeling/ Kuala Tahan is not on a private basis.
• It is quicker to go to Kuantan from Taman Negara than via Kuala Lumpur. Optional drop off in Kuantan is with supplement. For those travelling to the east coast town of Kuantan, you will arrive there at around 1530 hrs.
• During the 1st day of Muslim festival (Hari Raya Aidul Fitri & Hari Raya Aidul Adha), the boat departure will be at 1000 hrs from Kuala Tahan to Kuala Tembeling Jetty and from Kuala Tembeling to the resort remain at 1330 hrs. All recreational activities also will be started at 1030 hrs due to prayers.
• Gifts for Orang Asli: We do encourage bringing simple gifts when visiting the native settlement, a normal Asian custom. However, we do recommend items such as exercise books, pencil, rice or biscuits. Sweets and snacks, especially in non-biodegradable plastics, are not encouraged
• Please adhere to strict pick-up time punctuality. Tour operators may forfeit tours for travellers if no-show during stipulated time
• Registered name of the traveller must be corresponding with photograph documentation (Example: Passport). Tour operators reserve the right to reject if registered traveller fails to provide photographed documentation of their own
• Note: Starting from 1st September 2017, a tourism tax of RM10 per room per night will be imposed on non-Malaysian tourists for all types of hotels and accommodations. This is payable to the hotel upon check-out
