Get the best of both the land and aquatic beauty of Sabah by visiting the iconic Selingan (Turtle) Island and exploring the serene forest of Sukau.
The Selingan Island is a place full of nature’s own life wonders. The small island is the very site for you who are interested in knowing more about how animals have different ways in continuing the cycle of life. In fact, this tour will also bring you toward the scenic and panoramic view of the island’s coastal area as you explore and find out more about what Selingan Island really packs. Aside from the beach per se, you will also get to enjoy a walk along the Kinabatangan River where you will explore more about the biodiversity of the Kinabatangan area. Aside from the river, you will also get the chance to go deep into the Sukau Rainforest and find out how the fertile soil of the riverbanks has helped support the growth of the vast jungle.
Day 1
You will first be picked up from your hotel within Sandakan, Sepilok or Sandakan airport and proceed directly to Sandakan jetty where you will prepare for your departure to Selingan Island. Upon arrival, check yourself into the headquarter and get your belongings settled in your chalet (twin share). At around 12:00 P.M., lunch will be served and you will be able to finally enjoy that refreshing swim and snorkel in the crystalline ocean water. Once you resurface, dinner will be prepared in advance and you can restore that energy you use for the swim. When the time right, your ranger will alert you on the fact that the turtles have come ashore to lay their eggs. Be sure to keep a lookout for the instructions and make sure to get a good view of the eggs before they are being taken to Sabah Parks Turtle Hatchery. Of course, if there happens to be any hatchling prying out of their eggs, you will get that one-in-a-million chance of being able to snap that enviable shot for your friends to see.
Day 2
After your breakfast is done, you will head straight back to Sendokan jetty. And transfer to Sepilok for the orangutan feeding session. There, you will see the adult orangutan eating their fair share of grub at the main feeding platform while the younglings play in the nursery. At around 11 A.M., you will proceed to the Sandakan Memorial Park, a site known as a notorious World War 2 POW camp. The site also has a museum erected in memory of the British and Australian soldiers who lost their lives during the Japanese occupation.
Afterwards, you will make your way to Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary to catch the late afternoon river cruise at 4:00 P.M. After arriving at the sanctuary, check yourself into your lodge and participate in the lodging orientation session. At around 4 P.M. join the river cruise for some wildlife sightseeing around the riverbank before going back for a buffet dinner and retiring for the day.
Day 3
The early morning is filled with the morning call of the gibbons and hornbills. If you think that the previous river cruise is not enough, today is the perfect day to sneak in one last peek into the dense jungle and explore the rich wildlife of the forest. Keep an eye out for that gibbons and monkeys peeking through the dense canopy as you scan through the area. Return to the lodge for breakfast before you depart for Sandakan and Sepilok at around 8:30 A.M. Arrival at the airport will be at around 11 A.M. so you will have ample time to catch a 1:50 P.M. flight if you need to.
