Start your adventure by hopping on the traditional longboat that is fully equipped with a roof, which acts as a barrier against the scorching Sun. Travel through the Nam Ou river, which is one of the major tributaries of the Mekong River that is the 12th longest river in the world. You will make a stop to the well-known village, called Muang Ngoi that sits within the depths of the stunning nature. Catch the sights of the local people of Muang Ngoi engaging in the daily activities and the sounds of children’s laughter as they play with one another. Near the banks of the Nam Ou river, you may even catch the buffaloes bathing in the cool waters of the river.
Explore the sleepy town of Muang Ngoi, which is the home of the at least 800 friendly inhabitants. The quaint little town of Muang Ngoi does not of the luxuries of the cities, like internet access or landline telephones but it does have a small school and a temple. Proceed along the dirt roads that split the village into two. The village does have cafes that are littered all around the village, which allows for some relaxing time in the stunning sceneries of Muang Ngoi. Along the way, you will encounter upon the dark caves that are within the karst limestones, called the Tham Kang and Tham Pha Kaew caves that were at a point of history was a shelter for the civilians during the Second Indochina War in the 1960s.
Hop upon another longtail boat ride to the quaint Sop Chem village that is located further upstream. The Sop Chem village is a rural and underdeveloped village, which is the home of the Lu hill tribe. Be welcomed to the village with the friendly smiles of villagers and the sounds of children playing along with the streets of the village. The village is known for producing high-quality artisanal fabrics, with their weaving knowledge that has been passed down for generations. Explore the beautiful village and take the opportunity to purchase the beautiful fabrics at an affordable price. After an exhausting journey, you will be provided with a delectable lunch that is infused with the flavours of Laos ad it will surely fill your tummy. Head back to the boat and depart from the quaint village along the river with some more stunning sights to Nong Khiaw.
