Escape the hustle-and-bustle cities by travelling to the countryside of Luang Prabang on a mountain bicycle and visit the Wat Pa Phon Phao, Henri Mouhot’s resting place and the Tad Sae Waterfall.
Explore the rural side of Luang Prabang to get away from the bustling streets of the city on a quality mountain bicycle. After retrieving your bicycle from the city centre, you will head to the Wat Pa Phon Phao that is also known as the “Peacefulness Temple”, which exudes glory and grandeur from the stunning architecture and the gilded detailing. The Wat Pa Phon Phao is situated away from the city atop a hill that overlooks the ancient city of Luang Prabang and it is located at the southeast of Luang Prabang and the temple is a stone’s throw away from the Nam Khan river. The temple contains a stunning golden stupa and it is also a place of retreat for the believers. The walls of the temple are ridden with a group of beautiful murals and some of which have a more unpleasant nature behind it.
Then, you will trek along a well-paved path through the teakwood forest that provides shade against the Sun and then through the vast expanse of the rice fields that are along the Nam Khan river. You will stop at the resting place of Henri Mouhot, who was a French explorer during the 19th century. Henri Mouhot is known amongst his peers as the man to shed some spotlight on the downfall of the Angkor, the capital of the ancient Khmer civilization in Cambodia to the Western civilization. However, Mouhot contracted malaria during his travels in the jungles of Laos where he was eventually buried near the Nam Khan river. Then, you will bike through local villages and also striking mountains that is covered with lush forests where you will arrive upon a terrace that sits along the banks of the Nam Khan river.
Aboard a boat for a ride upriver en route to the Tad Sae Waterfall where you will be provided delectable lunch that will without a doubt fire your taste buds. Upon arrival to the Tad Sae Waterfall, you will have an opportunity to dive into the crystal clear water of the pool and admire the beautiful waterfall in the serene atmosphere of nature. Catch the sight of elephants that roam the nature where you take plenty of photographs that will last forever! During the high season, you will get a chance to see plenty of water rushing along the limestone formations, which is usually during August, all the way to January. However, during the low season, the Tad Sae Waterfall is rather dry with little water flowing but you will have a chance to come face-to-face with the adorable baby elephant that resides in the jungle.
