Tour Description:

We will start off with a friendly meet and greet with our representative at Pulau Banding Public Jetty. We will then begin our adventure by heading towards Belum Rainforest. The Belum-Temengor Rainforest, covering over 300,000 hectares is known as the largest continuous forest complex in Peninsular Malaysia. Believed to have existed for over 130 million years, makes it one of the world’s oldest rainforests, more aged than both the Congo and the Amazon.

The majestically spectacular rainforest is home to over 3,000 species of flora, including three species of Rafflesia, the world’s largest flower. Belum-Temengor is one of the largest relatively untouched rainforest in the country and hence possesses great potential for the uncovering of more biological wonders. This pristine rainforest is home to 14 of the world’s most threatened mammals, which include the white-handed gibbon, Malaysian sun bear, Asiatic elephant, Malayan tiger, and tapir. Discover all these treasures of nature as you trek through the spectacular rainforest.

Our next stop will be a visit to Kampung Aman Damai. This place is an authentic Jahai tribal village and home to about 18 families from the Jahai tribe. The majority of them prefer to stay along the river banks as it was easier to carry out their day-to-day activities as well as being near their boats, which are their only means of transport. The houses that you see are all built by the indigenous people themselves using solely forest produce. The Jahai tribe today are more modernised and no longer practice leaving the village upon the death of a community member.

Feel free to interact with the friendly Jahai indigenous people and they will even demonstrate and teach you how to use the blowpipe. Discover rainforest herbs such as the tongkat ali that are used for medicinal purposes. Learn about the Jahai culture and lifestyle through this eye-opening experience as the youngsters of the village perform traditional songs for your entertainment.

To replenish your energy, packed lunch will be served at the Royal Belum basecamp in Sungai Papan. Explore the salt lick at Jenut Papan which is essentially a deposit of mineral salts that animals use as a supplement to their nutrition. Salt licks are primarily used by herbivores to obtain vital nutrients such as magnesium, sodium, calcium and zinc. Trek to the several salt lick areas that are open to visitors and you can camp at the waiting hut to witness the animals lurk around and lick the minerals. You can even spot footprints left behind by various wildlife.

Then, hop on a speedboat for the Ruok Waterfall. The adventure continues with a short trek towards the majestic waterfall. Be cautious as you make your way there as the pathway can be slippery and steep. Because Ruok Waterfall is a freshwater fish sanctuary, no fishing is allowed in the area. However, you can feed the fishes or even strap on a life jacket swim with them. After immersing yourself in this nurturing nature experience, the adventure comes to an end and you will be transferred back to Pulau Banding Public Jetty.
