Tour Description:

Located approximately 20km from Ipoh, Gopeng used to be largely known as a thriving tin mining industry in the past. In modern times, the town has developed into one of Malaysia’s top destinations for exciting and thrilling outdoor adventures and is surrounded by fresh air, extensive greenery of lush rainforest, gushing clear river streams, stunning cascading waterfalls and spectacular limestone caves that are known to be geological wonders, such as the famous Gua Tempurung! It is no surprise that Gopeng has become a favourite destination to so many as it has something suitable for any nature lover or adventure enthusiast of all ages!

Our friendly and experienced nature guide will be waiting to get acquainted with you as you begin your adventure. Follow the lead of our experienced guide as he progresses into the peace and calm of the night. Indulge in the interesting local stories before our time that are retold by our guide to give you a little more insight of the life here. Explore and enjoy the experience of the fascinating mystery of the lush rainforest in the darkness of the night. Marvel at the delightful and exciting experience as you interact with the captivating jungle creatures of the night that usually keep a low profile in the daytime. If you are curious about any of the interesting wildlife that have come out to play, do not hesitate in asking our experienced guide to explain further about the wonderful creatures. There are many insects who are generally more active in the night as well so make sure you look out for various types of insects such as spiders, stick insects, grasshoppers and beetles among many others. If you are in luck, you may even catch sight of the unique civet cat (musang) and slow loris as they move among the other animals. While you may be immersed in the whole experience of discovering the abundant flora and fauna in the jungle, do make sure to be cautious as you walk on the pathway as it may be slippery or bumpy in the night.

As you venture further along your adventure, you may be given the opportunity to be in awe by the sight of the breathtaking fireflies that float gracefully in the dark like twinkling stars in the night sky. This lightning bugs emit a warm glow in the dark and are even able to routinely synchronize their flashing lights when they are in large groups, putting on the most beautiful natural light show! However, do be aware that the fireflies are creatures that are sensitive to light so make sure to keep the direction of your torchlights away from them. Moving along on your journey, you might be lucky enough to witness some unique looking fungi that glow in the dark, contrasting with the other greenery in the dark. Apart from this, there are even small durian plantations that can be found in the jungle. Durians are also known as the king of fruits and are very popular in Malaysia, however, if you are a first-timer, you may not be used to the strong odour that the fruit bears. Allow your heightened senses in the dark to elevate your experience to a whole new level as you embark on your exciting nature excursion into the jungle!

In addition to stimulating wildlife experiences in the lush rainforest, Gopeng is also popular for other impressive adventure activities in the outdoors such as white water rafting and water abseiling. While water rafting is one of the most popular water activities to be experienced in Gopeng, water abseiling is another unique experience for you to get up close and personal with nature as you conquer your fears and scale your way through the rushing clear waters down the beautiful waterfall. You will no doubt have a memorable exhilarating experience, especially for if you are an adventure enthusiast who enjoys the thrilling outdoors!

Ulu Geruntum is a 13-metre tall waterfall of cascading clear waters. Whether it is your first time or if you are an experienced abseiler, you will be in good hands with the guidance of our professional river guide. Upon reaching the area, the experienced guide will conduct a short briefing session to ensure that you are comfortable with the instructions and the safety of the activity and actions to use to signal when help is needed during the abseiling activity. After the briefing is finished, you will have to authorize the liability release forms, the guides will be sure to assist you in putting on the certified equipment provided before you make a quick 5-minute trek to the abseiling point.

Once you have arrived at the starting point, the guides will proceed to set up the abseil instrument at the waterfall so prepared to conquer your fears and have a good time! Experience the rush of adrenaline as you feel the gushing clear water hitting your skin. Engage your muscles as you start to make your way down the wonderful Ulu Geruntum. It may be challenging at first, but with practice, you will gain your confidence in no time. After a few times, you will be abseiling down the waterfall with ease! At the end of your adventure, be sure to recharge your energy and fill up on the scrumptious meal provided.

• Electricity in the rooms will only run from 7:00 pm - 7:00 am. For usage outside these hours, can be arranged at additional costs

• Please wear proper activewear for abseiling; dark coloured and breathable T-shirt, comfortable bottoms and suitable footwear
• Please wear proper activewear for hiking; cap, long/short sleeve shirt, long pants, socks, and hiking shoes
• Please bring a personal supply of drinking water (1 L), small towels, sun lotion, insect repellent, a personal raincoat and a walking stick if necessary
