Although Pu Luong is located just around 160 kilometres away from Hanoi, we will take a detour and make several stops along the way. As soon as we pick you up from your hotel on our limousine bus, we will drive towards Pu Luong with a short break at Luong Son where you can enjoy the change of scenery from the bustling city into the serene countryside. We will also take in the picturesque mountain landscapes as we drive through the scenic Thung Khe Pass on our way to the local market of the Muong ethnic minority. You can shop for local products and blend in with the locals here. After that, we will head to Pu Luong Nature Reserve with a quick stop at Mai Chau to transfer into a van.
Once arrived, we will check in to our rooms at the Pu Luong Eco Garden – The Mountain Retreat and enjoy our lunch. At 2 pm, we will board our van to the trailhead and start our trekking activities for today. As the route is quite pleasant to trek, we will walk through the extensive rice terraces and sugarcane plantations before crossing the suspension bridges to reach the remote villages of Thai ethnic minority. In fact, we could also learn about the traditional agricultural method when we stop by the duck farms. After trekking the entire afternoon away, we will sit back on a bamboo raft and enjoy a cruise down the Cham River. We will then return to the hotel and feel free to swim in the infinity pool here before indulging in the delicious barbecue dinner. Retreat to your room at the traditional stilt house and have a good night’s sleep.
Day 2 – Pu Luong / Ninh Binh
Get up early and enjoy a hearty breakfast before we embark on a more challenging trekking adventure for today! Our main destination is the Kho Muong Village which is hidden inside the lush jungles and mountain ranges. As the village is quite isolated from other areas in Pu Luong, we will have to hike up the small roads through the paddy fields and cross the stream on our way here. We will have to trek for around 6 kilometres before we arrive at the remote village of Kho Muong. Feel free to interact with the locals and learn about the traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation here!
Next, we will explore the natural beauty of the village – the Doi Cave (Bat Cave). Known as the largest cave in Pu Luong, the cave is famous for its rich biodiversity and houses 5 different species of bats. Get ready to be mesmerized by the spectacular formations of stalactites and stalagmites inside the cave! By noon, we will return to the hotel and check out of our rooms. After we have our lunch, you will have some free time to spend around the area before we head towards Ninh Binh at 2.30 pm. We will drive for around 3 hours on our bus and reach the Ninh Binh Retreat where we will stay for the night. You are free to explore the area on your own before we gather for dinner. Have an early night and enjoy the rural atmosphere while sleeping at the traditional stilt house.
Day 3 – Ninh Binh / Trang An / Hanoi
After spending two days getting in touch with nature and immerse ourselves in the local culture, we will experience something different for today as we visit the historical sites around Ninh Binh. We will have our breakfast early in the morning and head towards the Hoa Lu Ancient Capital. Get ready to be thrown back in time as we cycle through the limestone karsts to reach two ancient temples built by the Emperors of Hoa Lu dating back to the 10th century. While exploring this former capital of Vietnam, we will also visit the tomb of King Dinh Tien Hoang located on top of the Ma Yen Mountain. As we hike up the mountain, don’t miss out on the panoramic view of the surroundings!
On our way back to Ninh Binh, we will stop by a local family’s house where we can observe their daily routines and learn about the local culture while enjoying a cup of tea.
