Join us on this epic trekking adventure around Pu Luong Nature Reserve and discover the natural beauty of the Vietnamese countryside. Don’t miss out on the chance to learn about the local culture of the Thai ethnic minority groups here! Located just around 160 kilometres away from Hanoi, Pu Luong is definitely the perfect destination for your short getaway.
Day 1 – Hanoi / Pu Luong
As we leave Hanoi on our limousine bus, we will head towards Pu Luong while making several stops along the way. After driving for around 2 hours, we will have a short break at Luong Son where you can begin to feel the countryside vibe through the changing landscapes. Get ready to be mesmerized by the picturesque mountains and green valleys as we pass by the famous Thung Khe Pass on our way to the Muong ethnic minority local market! Besides shopping for authentic local products, you can also observe how the locals go about their daily activities at the market. We will continue our drive towards Pu Luong after a short transfer into a van in Mai Chau.
Once we arrive, we will check in to our room at the Pu Luong Eco Garden – The Mountain Retreat and have our lunch here. We will begin our trekking adventure in the afternoon and you can have your first taste of the easy trek around the nature reserve. Our main destinations for the day are the Thai ethnic minority villages of Chieng Lau, Yen and Ba which are located in the remote area. To reach the villages, we have to trek through small country roads around the rice terraces and sugarcane fields as well as crossing the hanging bridges. As we visit the villages, make sure to interact with the locals and immerse yourself in the local traditions! We might also be able to learn about the traditional agricultural technique when we stop at the duck farms. After a long day of trekking, we will relax and board the bamboo raft along the serene Cham River. We will head back to the hotel and enjoy our barbecue dinner before retreating for the night.
Day 2 – Pu Luong (Hieu Waterfall)
Today, we will embark on the ultimate trekking experience towards the majestic Hieu Waterfall! Wake up early and fuel up with a hearty breakfast at the hotel before we board our van to Pho Doan. If your visit is on Thursday or Sunday mornings, we will have the opportunity to visit the bi-weekly local market here. On other days, we will directly start our trek from the starting point.
The journey towards Hieu Waterfall is quite challenging as we need to trek for around 10 kilometres along the up and down hilly roads. While hiking through this country trail, we will pass by extensive paddy fields and lush jungles before arriving at one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Vietnam, the Hieu Waterfall. We will recharge our energy and have a scrumptious lunch by the waterfall. After that, you will have the entire afternoon to explore and admire the waterfall on your own. You can swim in its pristine pool or experience the strong currents below the cascading water. If you want to continue walking, feel free to wander around the surrounding forests and villages. At 5 pm, we will return to the hotel where we will unwind with a delicious barbecue dinner and tasty local rice wine. Have an early night and prepare yourself for our final day!
Day 3 – Pu Luong / Hanoi
Rise and shine! The best scenery of Pu Luong could be just right in front of your hotel room. While taking in the picturesque mountain scenery, enjoy your breakfast and get ready for our final trekking adventure. Similar to the previous route, we will need to hike on a hilly road to reach the isolated village of Kho Muong. This Black Thai ethnic minority village is located deep inside the forests and far away from other villages in the area. We have to cross the stream and trek through the paddy fields to reach the Kho Muong village. Once we arrive, we will get to learn more about the local traditions that have been passed down from generation to generation here.
While we are at Kho Muong Village, we will also visit the largest cave in Pu Luong: the Doi Cave (Bat Cave). We will explore the cave and marvel at its amazing formations of stalactites and stalagmites. Don’t forget to admire the rich biodiversity inside the cave as we can meet 5 different species of bat colonies here! By noon, we will return to the hotel and enjoy our lunch. You will have free time to relax before we return to Hanoi. At 2 pm, we will head towards Mai Chau and transfer into the limousine bus for our trip back to the city. Our fun and exciting trekking expedition end as we drop you off at your hotel in Hanoi.
