Tour Description:

Day 1 - Sepilok Orangutan Rehab Centre / Proboscis Lodge Bukit Melapi / Menanggul River Cruise

Starting your journey from either the hotel lobby or airport, make your way to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehab Centre where you can get up close with the critically endangered orangutan and witness them in their natural habitat. Watch a short video show to understand more about these apes living in the rehab centre.

Afterwards, depart from Lapit Jetty in Sukau for a short river cruise the Proboscis Lodge Bukit Melapi. On your way to the lodge, an introductory session will take place. Quench your thirst with welcome drinks upon arrival and freshen yourselves upon checking in to the room. Then, be prepared to fill up your tummies, as lunch will be served.

At 4:00 pm, embark on the Menanggul river cruise, which is a small stream of the Kinabatangan River. Keep your eyes peeled for sightings or hear the loud, bellowing noises of the endangered Proboscis monkey, a native Borneo species.

As the sun sets, return to the lodge to freshen up and prepare for dinner. Next, you may opt for a night river cruise to spot the nocturnal animals. Alternatively, enjoy our in-house activities such as palm weaving and traditional dance performances. Then, rest your weary feet and have a good night’s sleep at the Proboscis Lodge Bukit Melapi, which provides basic amenities and facilities.

Day 2 - Gomantong Caves / Sandakan Town

Your second day begins at 6:30am for breakfast with the sounds of nature as background music before checking out. We bid adieu to Proboscis Lodge Bukit Melapi and the surroundings of Sukau as we take off on the boat for Gomantong Caves, where you can witness the largest bird nest cave in Sabah. The trip will come to an end as you make your way back to Sandakan town where you will be dropped off at either the city hotel or the airport.
