Tour Description:

Get a chance to eat like a local and explore the old streets of Penang and even some of the local heritage sites with the help of your local, Penang guide. Embark on your foodie adventure with a typical Malaysian breakfast at one of the oldest traditional Malaysian kopitiam (or coffee shop in English). The shop dates back to the 1940s and you will get a chance to taste a myriad of traditional Malaysian breakfast dishes. One such dish is the typical Malay breakfast dish, nasi lemak, which is a rice dish cooked in coconut milk and served with egg, fried anchovies and a spicy sauce. Taste some of the Penang and Malaysia’s most quintessential breakfast foods at this kopitiam before moving on to your next stop.

Explore one of the oldest markets in Penang and taste some of the local produce there. If you’re not from a tropical country this is your chance to try some of Malaysia’s seasonal fruits that you won’t get to try where you’re from. Some of the more popular fruits are rambutan, mangosteen and Malaysia’s infamous king of fruits, durian! For those of you with a sweet tooth, get your taste buds ready for all of the delicious snacks, pastries and desserts Penang has to offer such as cendol (pronounced as Chendol) which is a shaved ice dessert served with sweet syrup and condensed milk. Don’t forget to save your stomach for the scrumptious and sinful street food as Penang offers some of the best street food that showcases Malaysia’s cultural diversity with Malay, Chinese and Indian flavours served at the markets.
