Swim and paddle your way around the beautiful water of the Indian Ocean while keeping your eyes peeled for the presence of the rarely seen yellowfish tuna along the way.
The Nusa Dua Beach has been one of Bali’s most coveted and popular tourist destinations. Maintaining and living up to this reputation is of course, no easy feat. However, in the case of Nusa Dua Beach, there are good reasons why it has always been a local and international favourite. The beach of Nusa Dua is more than just a local beach - it is believed that the beach was the very reason Nusa Dua came to be. Legend has it that it was the hero, Kebo Iwa, and his epic journey against the Majapahit Kingdom that first caused Nusa Dua to exist and flourish. The story continues by telling the tale on how Kebo Iwa sought power from the god Sang Hyang Rudra by the Nusa Dua Beach. Upon being granted the power, he was bestowed with two stones filled with magic. When one of them fell and broke in twain, the magic of the god allowed vegetation to flourish. It was then that the Nusa Dua region was born. As you can see, the ocean and beach of Nusa Dua play an important part in the local lore. It is perhaps only right that we should appreciate the legend of the region by getting to know the ocean better - starting with the shallow surface water.
There are many dwellers of the big beautiful ocean that can be found roaming the surface in search of food or warmth. In fact, you will find that the surface of the ocean offers you a bird’s eye view of the ocean bed in all its glory. Being able to see the great span of beautiful corals and schools of fish roaming right beneath you has its own charm that rings true to your sense of wonder. Think about it. A bird’s eye view enables you to see just how far the corals’ reach truly is. Plus, you can only see how big the actual school of fish is from above. For you who would like a light sport during the day, snorkelling will also be a perfect choice for you to take it easy, unwind and enjoy the beauty of the sea all simultaneously. Of course, you can also take the opportunity to snap your camera at the view you are about to behold. So strap up and ready yourself for some aquatic fun at the surface of the ocean.
Unlike scuba diving, snorkelling gives you a much wider view of the ocean. Gaze forward to the great unknown as you behold the depth of the ocean and marvel at its inhabitants. Keep your eyes peeled for both small and big fishes roaming around the surface in search of food and warmth as you paddle your way around. If you are lucky, you may come across schools of fishes coming out from the coral reefs in groups as they try to protect themselves from predators. You may also come across the rarely seen yellowfin tuna making its way around the surface curiously. But be careful, this shy creature also boasts a sudden burst of speed when it feels threatened. You do not want to be slapped by its powerful tail or be blocking its swimming route. Once you are satisfied, you can resurface and make your way back into your boat for a trip back to the shore.
