Bear witness to one of nature’s most interesting phenomenon, the mating rituals of “lightning bugs” and explore a Malay village for a unique cultural experience.
Day 1 – Overland Kuala Lumpur / Kuala Selangor (100 Km)
Feel excitement course through your veins as you depart for Kuala Selangor in the morning. Start off with a short visit to Batu Caves. Brave the mischievous monkeys and 272 daunting steps to reach the sacred Hindu temple cave that holds a Hindu deity. Check out the Museum Cave which is filled with epic murals of deities and scenes from the Hindu scriptures. Enjoy a refreshing coconut drink at the base of the hill after physically challenging yourself.
Once you have arrived at Kuala Selangor, take the opportunity to visit Kota Melawati, formerly known as Fort Altingsburg. The fort was constructed by orders of the second Sultan of Selangor to fend off invaders. Due to its strategic location on Melawati Hill, you will get a great view of the Strait of Malacca from atop the dilapidated fort. If luck is on your side, Silver-leaf monkeys might laze about nonchalantly, unperturbed by the many visitors at the site. There is also an old lighthouse built by the British to aid passing ships on the Strait of Malacca, once upon a time.
Then, proceed to a Malay village where you will get to enjoy lunch in one of the humble abodes. Learn to eat with your hands just as how the villagers do it. The experience does not end there; take a tour around the village and observe as the villagers go about their daily tasks. Mingle with the locals and learn more about their customs and experience their way of life for yourself before heading back to the hotel to check in.
As dusk creeps in, it is time to indulge the tummy with a sumptuous dinner at a local restaurant. Once you have had enough nourishment, hop on a boat and cruise along the Selangor River. Do not forget to breathe as you feast your eyes on thousands of fireflies introducing themselves through a brilliant display of lights; synchronised flickering that lights up the night, engraving it to your memory. Turn in for the night at the hotel with a serene and beautiful image in your head.
Day 2 – Kuala Selangor / Kuala Lumpur (100km)
After breakfast, get to Kuala Selangor Nature Park that is home to a secondary forest and a mangrove forest at the estuary of the Selangor River. This unique habitat supports a different kind of wildlife which adds to the allure and biodiversity of the park. Known also as a bird sanctuary, the park supports up to 156 native and migratory birds that add to the cacophony, bringing the forest to life. Explore numerous nature trails and be on a lookout for animals as you may spot Brahminy Kites or Silver leaf monkeys along the trails. Sore and weary, the trip back to the hotel in Kuala Lumpur will be brief for a much-needed rest.
