Venture to the outskirts of the bustling city along the Nam Ou river on a traditional longtail boat! Bask in the stunning sights of nature that encompass the Nam Ou river. The Nam Ou river is one of the important tributaries to the Mekong river and it is crucial to Laos as the river is used as a mode of transportation for logistics purposes. Travel through the Nam Ou river for 1.5 hours before heading to the Muang Ngoi village. Behold the sights of the villages hard at work as they prepare for their daily catch along the river and water buffaloes bathing in the cool waters.
Upon arrival to the quaint village of Muang Ngoi, you will have a chance to explore the village that has cafes littered all around the village. Catch the sights of other houses surrounding the local cafes that are dotted along one road. Trudge upon the trails that will take you to the Tham Kang and Tham Phra Kaew, which sheltered the civilians during the Second Indochina War during the 1960s. You will discover remnants left behind by the civilians from the time during the war. After an exhausting trek, you will be provided with a delicious lunch that will surely replenish your energy. After a hearty lunch, take to the Nam Ou river again but this time on a kayak to explore the beauty of the Nam Ou river at your own pace. Paddle along the gentle stream of the river as you marvel at the sight of the untouched corners of Laos.
Gaze at the stunning mountains that rise over the Nam Ou river in all of its glory and the luscious green jungle that flourish in the region. Make your way to the isolated Sopkong village and discover the culture and customs of the local people residing in the village. The Sopkong village is the home to the Khmu tribe that mainly sustains itself through rice farming within the mountainous terrain. Be surrounded by stunning rice paddies and verdant jungles as you make your way to the stunning Tad Mok limestone waterfall. Ease your mind as you take a dip into the cool waters of the waterfall at the base. After exploring the Tad Mok waterfall, you will have a soothing trek back to the village within the beauty of nature and then head back to Nong Khiaw on a slow boat ride.
