Tour Description:

When we discuss the famous ancient temples in Southeast Asia, Angkor Wat in Cambodia will definitely come to mind. However, do you know that there is a temple complex in Vietnam constructed around the same period as Angkor Wat? Well, its counterpart is My Son Holy Land, a complex of partially ruined ancient Hindu temples near Hoi An. It is also the largest and most important Hindu temple complex of the Champa Kingdom in Vietnam. This excursion will escort you to My Son and allow you to explore this complex at your own pace.

Located just 68 kilometres away from Hoi An, our trip to My Son will take about an hour and a half by our transfer vehicle. Along the way to My Son, we will pass by lush hills and stunning mountains. As we arrive at My Son, get ready to be mesmerized by the magnificent temples dedicated to Shiva. These temples were constructed between the 4th and 13th century while later being neglected in the 15th century when the Cham people migrated to the south. At one time, My Son complex boasted over 70 brick and stone temples bearing historical inscriptions in Sanskrit and Cham. As the complex was severely destroyed during the Vietnam War, only 32 ancient towers remain now with 20 of them still possessing their original structures.

While you are wandering around My Son, you should pay attention to the relief carvings depicting deities, human beings and animal creatures here. These ancient relics tell stories about the Hindu religious culture of the Cham people. As you walk pass the temples, you should also ponder about the Cham architectural practice. Just imagine how they could put all the bricks together without using any mortar at that time. It is definitely mind-boggling! After you stroll around the area, you may enjoy our provided snack at the temple. Once you are satisfied with your exploration, we will head back to the city.
