Discover the silent beauty of Muong Hoa Valley and the peaceful Giang Ta Chai village that lies within it.
Travel to Muong Hoa valley half an hour by car or motorbike. The trek starts at the famous stunning Muong Hoa valley. It is well-known for its stunning mountainous landscapes, most notably for its mysterious ancient stone that has strange carvings on them. They come in different size and are “hiding” in the bushes or lying openly on the ground. Numerous scientists from different countries have come to study the mysterious stones. You will also come across small villages of the Hmong before reaching a stunning huge waterfall to take a short break. Marvel the magnificent waterfall while having some light snacks and fruits, and maybe take one or two pictures as a remembrance. Everyone knows and talks about Sapa’s gorgeous rice terrace fields, but little do they know Sapa also has some stunning waterfalls. Continue on your trek on the dirt trail to the village of Red Dao, Giang Ta Chai. It lies between primitive, dense proud forests.
The Dao live off their land, so there are vast rice terrace fields and seemingly unending corn fields. The most unique feature of the Dao is their herbal bath. You cannot find a bath like this anywhere else, as the villagers use the herbs and leaves collected from their forests. The bath is said to be very beneficial for your health and skin. Don’t miss out the chance to try it and to refresh yourself from the daily stressful life. You will visit the local’s stilted house as well. The house often has a wide room in the centre of the house which is used both as a place for worship and guest reception. In the house, listen to the Dao’s stories about their rich traditions and customs. If you visit Giang Ta Chai on a weekday, then come to the local primary school to meet the lovely children of the village as well as gain more insight into their life. After bidding goodbye to Giang Ta Chai, on your way home, you will stumble upon Su Pan. It is a small, poor village of Sapa. Due to the bad quality of the soil, Hmong people used to have a lot of difficulties financially. Today, however, the life of Su Pan villagers are gradually getting better as they have started to sell brocade goods. You will then climb out of the dirt trails to reach the main roads, get on your transportation and get back.
