Once your ready, you can head to the front desk to be directed to our experienced and friendly guides that will bring you to the first caving destination. You will get the chance to walk along the plankwalk that has a spectacular birds-eye view of the forest as you hike to Deer and Lang’s Cave. At the entrance of the Deer Cave, you will realise that it is an extremely large cave. It used to be a place for shelter for the indigenous tribes of Penan and Berawan people. You may be treated to a spectacular sight of free-tailed bats coming out from the entrance of the cave in the late evening as they go out for a night hunt. (This is subjected to weather conditions) A short walk away, you can also visit the Lang cave that is the smallest of the show caves, but it has one of the most beautiful rock formations that should not be missed. After a tiring day of activities, head back to resort via the plankwalk and enjoy a sumptuous meal before retiring to your accommodation for the night.
Day 2 – Batu Bungan Penan Settlement / Wind & Clearwater Caves
The next day, wake up to the call of nature just at your doorstep. Enjoy a heavy breakfast before heading out for your first activity of the day. Soak up the cultural richness of the Penan people who are indigenous to the Mulu land, there is a lot to learn from the history of these people and how they progressed. Take this opportunity to support the local tribe by purchasing some of the handmade gifts that they make. Next, hop on a longboat that will take you out to the Clearwater and Wind Caves that are located along the Melinau River. At the Wind Cave, you will discover that there is a constant stream of light breezes blowing into the cave from the outside. This is having to do with the structure of the cave that causes the airflow. Also, there are many impressive rock corals and illumination place around rock formations that make them dazzle as fluorescent light is shone on them. It is a mesmerizing sight that should not be forgotten and do remember to photograph it down while you are there. Next, head to the Clearwater caves where there is a constant underground water rushing. On the outside, there is a picnic area where there is a tiny pool of water that is filled with water flowing from the cave. You can opt to have a refreshing dip into the water before heading back to the resort.
