At the entrance of the Deer Cave, you will see that it has a ginormous entranceway and it was previously used by the Penan and Berawan who are indigenous tribes to Sarawak as shelters. You may be able to catch a spectacular sight of free-tailed bats coming out from the entrance of the caves in the late evening as they head out for a night hunt. (It is dependent on weather conditions) It is a beautiful sight not to be missed. A short walk will take you to Lang Cave that is the smallest of the show caves., but it has one of the most beautiful rock formations that should not be missed. After such a long day of activities, head back to the resort via plank walk and enjoy a sumptuous meal before retiring for the night.
Day 2 – Batu Bungan Penan Settlement / Wind & Clearwater Caves
Rise up to the sound of nature at your doorstep. Head for an amazing spread of breakfast before going on more cave explorations. Explore the unique culture of the Penan people who have been the first inhabitants in Sarawak. You will also have the chance to discover the rich history of the Penan people and their heritage. By purchasing some of the locally handmade merchandise, you can help to support the local community and protect their heritage. Jump on one of the longboats that will transport you to Clearwater and Wind Cave which are located along the Melinau River. Once in the Wind cave, you will feel that there is a constant breeze of air that is passing through the cave. It is due to the structure of the cave that causes the air outside to be pushed inward making allowing a constant supply of fresh air to come in. Next, head to the Clearwater Cave, you will hear is a constant sound of gashing water in the underground as you expedition this cave. There is a picnic area just outside of the cave where there is a tiny pool that is filled with water that is passing from the cave. You can have a refreshing dip into the water before heading back to the resort. Remember to have a photo session with your new-found friends and the friendly guides that have toured with you.
