Tour Description:

Day 1 – Arrival at Mulu, Lang’s / Deer Caves / Bat Exodus

Get on a domestic flight that will fly direct to Mulu airport. Upon your arrival, look for the guide that will be there waiting to pick you up from the airport to transport you to Mulu National Park. Check in to your accommodation the Rainforest Lodge before heading off to your next activity. There will be an experienced guide that will trek with you along the plankwalk to the entrance of the Deer Cave. Along the way to the cave, you can expect to see many wildlife and flora and fauna that is found in the surrounding dense forested area. When you have arrived at the entrance of the Deer Cave, the first thing you do realise is its large cave passage that allows the interior of the cave to be illuminated by natural lighting. A fun fact about the Deer cave is that it was previously used as a sheltered place for the local Penan and Berawan people to take refuge from the harsh tropical environment.

During the late afternoon, you will be ushered to a location to see the Bat exodus event taking place. It will be a spectacle as these nocturnal bats race out of the caves to hunt for food. (This activity depends on the weather condition) Next, make your way to the Lang’s Cave which is a short walking distance away from the Deer Cave. Though it is the smallest of the show caves, it has one of the prettiest rock formations that are worth enjoying. As the spotlights cast a powerful light raw on the rocks, you will see these rocks come to life with a shiny glow that makes them mesmerising and gorgeous. Then head back to the Rainforest lodge where you will find dinner prepared for you. Head to bed and rest for there will be a day full of activity on the next day.

Day 2 – Batu Bungan Penan Settlement / Wind & Clearwater Caves 

 Awake with to the sound of nature in the background calling you non-stop. Go down for a hearty breakfast that is specially prepared for you and get ready for a day sprawling with exciting activities. Get on the long-tailed boat that will take you to Batu Bungan (The Penan people’s settlement). Experience the constant breeze striking against your cheek as the boat speed down the river and the crispy fresh air that refreshes you. Once you reach the Penan settlement, a local guide with bring you around the compound and explain the heritage of people. You will get first-hand stories and experience into their unique lifestyle. There will be some hand-crafts that you can purchase after the tour. Get back on the boat and continue down the Melinau River which will take you to the first cave, the Wind Cave.

Upon stepping into the cave, you will notice that there is a constant fresh breeze that flows into the cave that will give a refreshing feeling. After a short walk, you will arrive at the Clearwater Cave. As you step into the cave, you will get to hear the constant gashing sound of water flowing underground. As you walk along the cave, keep your eyes peeled for the amazing structure and beautiful rock formations that can be found in the cave. Walking out of the cave, you will see a shaded area that is good for a picnic session. There is a small pool that is filled with underground water, you may choose to go in for a dip and swim around to cool down after a strenuous caving experience. Then head back to the rainforest lodge after a long day and enjoy dinner before falling asleep with the sound of cicadas in the wild.

Day 3 – Departure from Mulu

Wake in the morning and go for a hearty breakfast that will be prepared for you. Pack your luggage and head to Mulu airport for the domestic flight back home.

• Recommended to prepare own insect repellent, sunscreen, hiking equipment (glove, torchlight), raincoat and medication
• Wear good trekking shoes and comfortable cotton T-shirt with long or short pants
• Tipping is compulsory (RM 40/pax)
• Hotel rooms are subject to availability. If selected hotel is unavailable, other similar accommodations will be provided with different pricing
• Pick up times will vary depending on the arrival of your flight
• Our agent will contact you for confirmation on pick up time one (1) week before the tour
• You may also contact them directly for pick up confirmation once your flights are confirmed
• Please adhere to strict pick-up time punctuality. Tour operators may forfeit tours for travellers if no-show during stipulated time
• Registered name of the traveller must be corresponding with photograph documentation (Example: Passport). Tour operators reserve the right to reject if registered traveller fails to provide photographed documentation of their own
• Note: Starting from 1st September 2017, a tourism tax of RM10 per room per night will be imposed on non-Malaysian tourists for all types of hotels and accommodations. This is payable to the hotel upon check-out
