Hike up and marvel at the unparalleled view atop Langkawi’s second highest mountain, Mat Chinchang.
Looking for an adrenaline-filled, challenging hike up a mountain? If you are a physically fit and an experienced trekker, then this adventure is definitely catered to you. Mount Mat Cincang is regarded as Langkawi’s second highest peak but possibly the best-known mountain there, and the oldest mountain in the whole of Southeast Asia. Clocking in at 850m high, the mountain offers some pretty spectacular views of the island. This majestic mountain range is covered in dense rainforest and features some incredibly old and impressive rock formations. It is also listed as one of three UNESCO World Heritage Geoparks on Langkawi and is understandably one of the top tourist attractions on the island.
Your unsuspecting trek begins at the Seven Wells waterfall, with an easy climb up a gentle slope. There will be paths that have short bridges over streams of river water and concrete steps to walk on. This hike up and down through undulating terrain continues for a while until you see the ropes. And that is exactly when the fun part starts. The hike from this point onwards is all about climbing along narrow trails at 50-60 degree incline, relying on ropes fixed along the trail. Moving along and ensuring your safety, will be our seasoned guides, who more than glad to fill you in on the urban legend of the mountain and the origins of its name.
The journey up offers some breathtaking views of the rainforest but once you’ve finished the climb to the top, you will be met with the most amazing view of the island, including Langkawi’s islands scattered in the Andaman Sea below. At the peak on a clear day, Mount Mat Cincang presents sweeping 360 ̊ views of Langkawi, all the way to the Malaysian mainland. And after all that, the best part is that you can come down and soak in the atmosphere by dipping into the waters at the Seven Wells Waterfall.
