Experience the lively surrounding of Mekong megacity and travel amidst the hustle and bustle of local residents going about their daily tasks.
The Mekong River has always been one of Southeast Asia’s pride. Coursing through and connecting borders together, the river is an integral lifeline and support for many of the local people living along the riverside. One such people reside in the Can Tho region of Vietnam. Unlike some of the popular misconception, however, Can Tho is far from being a traditional and underdeveloped town. It is, in fact, one of the Mekong’s “megacity” where people and business thrive. What better way to learn more about the river than by visiting one of its most iconic city?
Day 1 - Ho Chi Minh City / Cai Be/ Can Tho
From your Ho Chi Minh hotel, you will go on a 2.5-hours’ drive away from the popular tourist areas and into the lesser known spot of the rural destinations. You will arrive at Cai Thia pier at approximately 10:30 A.M. where you will bring yourself to Hoa Loc. Cycling through the villages on the winding countryside road, you will visit various local houses where you get to learn more about their local craft. Then, you will regroup on your boat and ride your way further to a less crowded area of the Mekong. There, a bamboo sampan is waiting to take you even deeper into the countryside map. Swerve and row through a network of winding canal routes before cruising toward Vinh Long in the afternoon. From Vinh Long, transfer to Can Tho, check into your hotel and enjoy the night in the “megacity” of the Mekong Delta.
Day 2 - Can Tho / Ho Chi Minh City
The day starts early at 6:00 A.M. Of course, it comes with its own reward – you will get to see the floating Cai Rong market in full function. As your boat slowly glides through the market crowd and mayhem, look around for amazing photo opportunities to take amidst the natural produce found around the market. Then, it is back to the hotel for breakfast and check-out at around 8:00 A.M. Then, transfer over to Phong Dien, the beautiful area of Can Tho city and make your way to a local blacksmith family and a fruit orchard located in Nhan Ai Island. While you are here, you will also grab your mouth-watering lunch for that extra local experience. Once your tummy is all full, say goodbye to your host and make your way back to Ho Chi Minh City where you will conclude your tour.
