Pass by the scenic routes and amazing tracks of the Mekong Delta as you learn more about the lifestyle of local residents conducting their day to day task.
Your journey starts at 7 A.M. in the morning as you head toward My Tho. Where is My Tho you ask? This gateway city to the Mekong Delta is the capital of Tien Giang province. Its proximity to Ho Chi Minh city means that a huge volume of tourists can come by and visit the city during their trip to Saigon. This is where you will start your cycling adventure. Crossing the Rach Mieu ferry, you will start your cycling adventure along the country road lined with coconut canopy.
Your first checkpoint is Ben Tre Province. After cycling for some time, you will arrive at Ben Tre Province at around noon. The serene province provides some of the most beautiful scenery in the Mekong Delta - its coffee coloured water winds down the small channel where water palms, thatch and bamboo houses are nestled in the lush orchards. Cycle your way along the quiet rural roads, pass through beautiful orchards, rice fields, villages, bridges and canals. You will also have a chance to witness the busy daily life of local residents and meet many friendly people along the country lane. Stop for a brief lunch break with some traditional meal on the stalls around the market. Be warned that one of the local favourite soups in the Mekong Delta, Hu Tieu, contains boiled intestines and liver so choose wisely. Of course, feel free to try it for yourself if you are feeling brave as well! There is also a floating restaurant near the old bridge where you can try out some local delicacy. Some local speciality foods include Chuoi Dap (grilled banana) - a tasty cuisine that helps fill your rumbling tummy one small bite at a time - and Bun Rieu - a special crab noodle soup that is uniquely Vietnam.
You will also get to visit the garden of a local family and witness the daily toll of a local farmer. You can also try out some exotic seasonal fruits that are unique to the region. Then, after a refreshing siesta on a hammock, you will cycle to explore more of this serene destination, take part in the coconut-candy workshop and participate in the handicraft workshop (if time permitting) before coming back to your bus. Finally, sit back and relax as we take you back home after a good day’s cycle.
