Indulge in the history of Laos by visiting the quaint Royal Palace Museum that at one point in time was the home for the royal family of Laos. Some of the architecture of the museum can be dated back to centuries ago with remnants of the past design that is during the Lane Xang Kingdom and colonial era, to even more modern designs. The palace was converted to the museum after the communist came into power in 1975. Currently, the museum holds a wide array of ancient artefacts, such as the statues, weapons and many more! Your next stop would be to the Wat Xieng Thong, which is known for its beautiful architecture, which displays a more Luang Prabang-style and the temple features beautifully-crafted walls with intricate designs, the high funeral carriage that is 12 meters high and many more!
Venture further to the Wat Wisunarat, which is also one of the oldest temples in Laos. The Wat Wisunarat that was built in 1513 during King Wisunarat’s sovereignty that exudes glory with the olden Luang Prabang architectural style. One of the important features of the temple is the That Makmo that has a more rounded shape dome which gives the name ‘The Watermelon Stupa’, which illustrates a more Sinhalese influence in the design and it is the one stupa that is uniquely shaped in entire Laos. Learn about the culture of the Laos people by visiting the Traditional Arts and Ethnology Centre which provides a great insight to the ethnic groups in Laos. There are an abundance of exhibitions that are found in the centre which includes, traditional textile and clothing, baskets, photography and household objects and many more! The centre holds more than 400 exhibit which illustrates the life of more than 30 ethnic groups that reside in Laos.
After an exhausting journey, you will head to the local restaurant where you will delight yourself with local Laos cuisine that will fire your taste buds. In the afternoon, you will head to the local villages called the Ban Xang Khong and Ban Xienglek. The villages are known for their exquisite textiles that are display intricate designs and also papermaking with more eco-friendly materials. You will have a chance to gain some insight on the weaving process, from scratch to the end product. Traverse back to the town where you will head to the Wat Siphouthabath, which is a place of education for monks where you will gain some insight on the simple lifestyle of young monks at the temple. Bask in the beautiful nature when you visit the Mount Phousi that rises to 150 meters above the town and the site provides the best view to watch the sunset and the scenic view of the ancient city of Luang Prabang and the Mekong rivers. Discover a wide range of flora and fauna that reside in the hill as you make your traverse along the trail.
