Conquer the climb to the summit of Mt Rinjani as you trek through the Gunung National Park and be surrounded by its diverse flora and fauna!
Day 1 – Lombok / Sembalun Village
Be greeted by a tour guide who will pick you up from either the airport upon your arrival or from the hotel in Mataram or Senggigi. Once you’ve been picked up by your tour guide, you’ll embark on an approximately four-hour road trip to Sembalun. This village is one of two key gateways to trek up Mount Rinjani and once you arrive in the village you’ll go to the hotel where you’ll be spending the night.
Day 2 – Sembalun / Plawangan Sembalun
Have a filling breakfast to prepare yourself for a busy day of trekking before you begin your climb. You will first walk through the savanna and after two hours you’ll reach Shelter 1. Enjoy the sights of the lush forest as you continue to make your way to Shelter 2 which should take another couple hours. Upon arrival at Shelter 2, you’ll take a break for lunch to fill your rumbling stomachs.
Continue your trek through Gunung Rinjani National Park which is 41,330-hectares as you leave Shelter 2 and head towards Shelter 3. Prepare yourself for a challenge as once you leave Shelter 3, the trek is going to get steeper and harder. Keep yourself hydrated and pace yourself as you walk another 3 hours till you arrive at Plawangan Sembalun where you will set up camp for the night. Plawangan Sembalun is situated on the rim of a crater and is approximately 2639 meters above sea level with temperatures reaching 7 to 8 degrees Celsius. The campsite also offers you the best location for an amazing view of Segara Anak Lake which is a crater lake and is definitely a sight you won’t want to miss, especially at sunset so get your cameras ready.
Day 3 – Plawangan Sembalun / Rinjani Peak / Sembalun Village / Mataram or Senggigi
Wake up bright and early at 3 am and have a small breakfast and hot coffee or tea before heading out to continue your trek to the summit of Mt Rinjani. Walk through a steep ridge covered with sand and small rocks and be prepared for the weather to get colder. You’ll also have to wear a mask to avoid inhaling any dust. After three hours you’ll reach the summit of Mt. Rinjani. Gaze at the gorgeous sight of the view from the 3,726 meters tall mountain which is also the second highest in Indonesia. You’ll get to see ocean stretch out to Bali Island and watch as the rays of the sun touch Segara Anak Lake below you.
After you’ve had your fill of the once in a lifetime sight, head back to your camp which should take around two hours. You’ll be treated to a more filling breakfast as a reward for a successful early morning trek to the summit before continuing down to Sembalun. After four hours you’ll have arrived at Sembalun and from there you’ll be transferred to Mataram or Senggigi which marks the end of your trip.
