Delve into the rural parts of Luang Prabang by exploring the mysterious Pak Ou cave and the beautiful Kuang Si waterfall!
Kick off to an exciting adventure to unravel the secrets of the ancient city of Luang Prabang, that is situated at the northern part of Laos. The Ban Muang Keo is a relatively small village that is located along the banks of Mekong river and the village is well-known for producing lao-lao, which is a Laotian whisky that is a form of local moonshine rice wine. The Ban Muang Keo village is also known for its flourishing weaving industry that produces hand-made textiles with looms that are interwoven into the fabric in a Laotian-style pattern.
Traverse through the Ban Muang Keo, which will lead you to a trail that will take you to the mysterious caves of Pak Ou, which consists of two caves that overlook the Mekong river whilst the caves sits atop a limestone cliff. The Pak Ou cave is filled with an abundance of statues, with more than 4000 Buddha statues that illustrate Buddha in various positions and sizes scattered all around the temple. Explore the serene village of Ban Nonghai that is located further away from the bustling city of Luang Prabang as you ride along the road back to Luang Prabang. Indulge in the culture of the villagers in the Ban Nonghai, where you will catch the sight of the beautiful crafts made by the villagers. Then, you will head to a local restaurant that is located within the city centre of Luang Prabang, where you will delight yourself with the local flavours of Laos by savouring the delectable food of Laos.
After the hearty lunch, you will head to the stunning Kuang Si Waterfall by trekking along a trail, that is located around 20 kilometres south of the main city of Luang Prabang. Behold the three-tiered waterfall that towers to about 50 meters high and the environment that is surrounded by lush verdant trees that grow healthily upon the lands. Soothe your body after the exhausting trek by taking a dip into the cool pools that will refresh every fibre in your body. Take the chance to discover a wide variety of flora and fauna that reside in the jungle near the Kuang Si Waterfall by strolling along a trail through the jungle. Your last stop would be a visit to the Bear Rescue Center, a centre which is heavily involved in the protection and rehabilitation of the rare Asiatic Black Bear. The threatened species have been in decline over the years due to hunting and deforestation. Witness the lovely creatures enjoying their time in the enclosure that they now call home as you learn more about the conservation effort to help them.
