Explore what Flores has to offer to you – from the oldest traditional village of the Manggarainesse to islands with Komodo dragons, you will get to experience it all for yourself on this tour!
Day 1 – Denpasar / Labuan Bajo / Denge
Arrive at Komodo Airport in Labuan Bajo where you will be driven to Denge Village. Denge Village is a 4-hour drive away from the airport. Several stops will be made in the Lembor area so you can see the still-hidden wonder of Lingko, the spiderweb-shaped rice fields. The rice fields are grown and placed in such a way that they create the image of a spider web from an aerial view. A lunch box will be served to you en route, so enjoy your lunch as you head towards Denge for an overnight stay, but not before having your dinner.
Day 2 – Denge / Trek to Waerebo
After breakfast, you will trek from Denge to Waerebo which is the oldest traditional village in the Manggarainesse. Along with your trek, you will go through one of the biologically-richest areas in all of Indonesia. The forest is often described as being like a huge Garden of Eden. It is filled with different types of vegetation and plantation, ranging from orchids to palms and ferns. The raucous calls of various tropical birds will provide some lovely background noise to accompany you on your trek.
You will meet a clear freshwater river on the way to the village and it will be a good resting spot for a while to gather up your strength and stamina once again for the remaining trek. When you arrive at Waerebo Village, you will be greeted by conical houses, one of which is a “drum house” with unique architecture, used as a place where meetings, rituals and Sunday morning prayers are held. The “drum house” is a communal building for maintaining the harmony of a clan or clan bunch. Now that the place has developed into a tourism site, visitors can sleep in the traditional houses and enjoy meals of local cuisine together with the villagers.
Day 3 – Waerebo / Denge / Labuan Bajo
Trek down to Denge Village from Waerebo after your breakfast and continue your journey to the western tip of Flores Island, Labuan Bajo. Stops will be made along the way at Iteng/Narang where gorgeously-panoramic views of rice paddy fields are backed by scenic hills. Waeremu Beach is a great place for swimming, so you will stop by there, too. When you finally arrive at your hotel, check in and have your dinner.
Day 4 – Labuan Bajo / Rinca Island / Labuan Bajo / Denpasar
At about 5:00 am, you will be picked up to be transferred to the pier of Labuan Bajo to head to Rinca Island. The trip will take about 2 hours by sea to reach the island of the Komodo dragons. Upon arrival, you will kick off your trek led by an experienced guide. Trudge through the dry forests where Komodo dragons, deer, water buffalo, long-tailed macaques, pigs and numerous tropical birds make their home. If you glance up into the branches of the trees, you may see a young Komodo dragon lazing in the tree. Once you’re done with the trek, you will embark on a boat trip back to Labuan Bajo where you will take your return flight to Denpasar.
