Tour Description:

The prospect of unravelling nature’s secrets can be an exhilarating thrill, but only if you know where to look. Situated roughly 112 km from Kota Kinabalu, the grand Klias River flows through a vast plain of wetlands and has adventure written all over it. Many great adventure movies use the premise of rivers as the base of their plots due to alluring charm of the river and the excitement it promises.

Your tour begins in the afternoon at 2:30 pm with an overland transfer from your hotel to the Klias Forest Reserve. As you travel along the route towards the reserve, you will get to experience the scenic coastal roads and picturesque villages dotting the sylvan landscape. Upon arrival at the Klias River Village Jetty at approximately 4:00 pm, you will be greeted with coffee, tea and local Malay snacks to sate your rumbling belly! Take a moment to admire the mighty river from the water's edge and marvel at the forestland that stretches out far into the distance all around it.

At approximately 4:45 pm, you will embark on your cruise in search of a variety of jungle dwellers, particularly the Proboscis monkeys. Known to be endangered, the Proboscis monkey can only be found in Borneo, which makes catching sight of some, a rare event. Other wildlife you may encounter include birds, monitor lizards, crocodiles and other monkeys. Once you’ve returned to the jetty, enjoy a magnificent Malay buffet spread around 6:30 pm. As dusk descends, we will gather once again for a short river cruise to be spectators of a breathtaking natural phenomenon, the twinkling of ‘lightning bugs’—fireflies—lighting up the river banks. The tour draws to a close at 7:30 pm, where you will be transferred back to your hotel in Kota Kinabalu.
