Have you ever itched for some more of those challenging sports that push you to your physical limit? Why do it for nothing when you can do it for a good time and good memory? The arduous trekking route that you will be taking is a test of your physical fitness. This is why there is a requirement for you to be fit and ready for this trip. While the journey may be strenuous, the reward is well worth the effort. Looking at fertile and vast fields, trekking through steep mountainsides and enjoying the panoramic view atop the hilltop are among the many other thrills you will get to enjoy during your journey. If you plan your schedule and timetable well, you also get to immerse yourself into the Dusun culture as you make your way through the villages and learn more about the residents’ way of life and culinary choices. Again, why do it for nothing when you can do it for something amazing?
Day 1
You will be picked up at approximately 6:30 A.M. from Kota Kinabalu. Once you are on board, the scenic drive to Kiau Village in the foothills of Mount Kinabalu thus begins. Do pray for good weather as it will be so much better trekking amidst favourable weather than it is trekking through mud and wet soil. Once you arrive in Kiau Village, you will meet your local guide and start your two-hour long hike to the summit of Nuluh Lingion. If you prefer another hiking trail, you may request so provided that you have given the notice at least 3 days before. Along the way, you will pass through verdant meadows filled with the freshest fruits. Stop and taste some of the pineapples, jackfruits, wild ginger and bananas. Afterwards, you will continue your hike through the primary forest all the way to the lookout point.
There, sit down and enjoy your lunch for a well-deserved break. Keep your eyes peeled and take a look around the scenic surroundings of Mount Kinabalu and its waterfalls at a height of 1420 metres. With lunch over, you will get to choose one of four different routes for the descent. While all four involve the strenuous effort of a steep descent and river traversing, they are also accompanied by the beautiful view of the surrounding forest. Depending on the route of your choice, you might still make it back in time to experience some Dusun food at your local homestay with your local host. Then, check yourself in and retire for the day after an afternoon of hard hiking and trekking.
Day 2
Rise up early in the morning and rejuvenate your tired bones with the early morning breeze. Do not be surprised if the villagers beat you when it comes to just how early they can rise - it is simply their way of life. Still, use this chance to explore the village area amidst the fresh morning breeze and make the most out of your morning. You will find just how fresh the air is and how different the whole place feels as compared to an urban surrounding. Finally, at 10 A.M., your driver will arrive to take you back to Kota Kinabalu.
