Experience the admirable TT5 Tin Dredge as you explore its wonderful structure and experience the famous unfinished mansion of Perak.
We will start off with a friendly meet and greet with our representative. We will then kick start our adventure by heading towards the famous Kellie’s Castle. Kellie’s Castle was meant to be Scottish Planter, William Kellie Smith’s, home away from home in the 20th century. The mansion was planned to be built as a six-storey tower with majestic columns. Kellie’s Castle was the dream palace of the owner, comprising of a moat, a rooftop tennis court, an underground cellar and even secret tunnels.
Strangely enough, many of his workers succumbed to the Spanish flu. However, construction only came to an abrupt halt upon the untimely demise of Kellie in the 1920s. Today the castle stands as a symbol of a beautiful and bygone era of a once forsaken romance. If you’re feeling in the mood, we will stop to get some refreshing ABC Coklat before proceeding towards Tanjung Tualang to visit the TT5 Tin Dredge.
Tin dredges resemble floating factories, and the TT5 Dredge’s 4,500 tonnes is supported by a large pontoon. The TT5 Dredge operated for 44 years before the rapid decline of the tin mining industry. This tin dredge that was built in England, was the last to testify of Malaysia’s prosperity in the tin mining industry.
Home to numerous tin mines, it is no wonder Perak was named thus; the word ‘perak’ in Malay translates to silver which was thought to be the colour representation of tin. Explore the TT5 Dredge and excavation site where you will see scooping apparatus, extremely large gear wheels as well as bundles of plus-sized ropes that once served an important purpose but now subjected to antiquity. The tin dredge today expresses great heritage value as the last of its kind.
After that, lunch will be served at a local restaurant to appease your hunger. Our adventure comes to an end and your transport will be ready to take you back.
