Explore various attractions in Flores to places like Kelimutu, Riung, Ruteng and Bajawa to get the most out of this Indonesian island!
Day 1 – Denpasar / Ende / Moni
Your tour guide will welcome you to Flores once you step out of the airport. The guide will then drive you to Moni to go to your accommodation. Along the way, stop by the Detusoko terraced rice paddies where you can feel freshened up as you gaze at the verdant sloping hills and surrounding valleys and forests. Arrive in Moni and check-in.
Day 2 – Moni / Kelimutu Lakes / Riung
The sunrise at Kelimutu’s tricoloured crater lakes is not a sight to be missed, so wake up early and make your way down to Kelimutu volcano. The colours of the three lakes can change from blue to green and red. Move on to either Saga or Wologai village to observe how locals carry out their daily routines. Have your lunch at Ende before continuing on your journey to Riung. Before reaching Riung, stop by Penggajawa Blue Stone Beach where you can see local women collecting blue and grey stones to be sold as garden decorations.
Day 3 – Riung / Bajawa
After breakfast, enjoy a boat trip to the spectacular sea garden of the 17 islands. The 17 islands have a reef whereby a multitude of various coral and colourful tropical fish can be found. Each of the 17 islands has gorgeous white sandy beaches perfect for relaxing on and enjoying a meal. A BBQ lunch will be served there, and after that, you will be driven up to Bajawa. Stop by Soa, a natural hot spring pool where you can take a rejuvenating dip. Once you arrive in Bajawa, you can enjoy dinner and rest at your accommodation.
Day 4 – Bajawa / Ruteng
Have your breakfast at the hotel then go explore the traditional village of the Bajawa tribes, Bena. Bena is a megalithic village whose people still hold on to their beliefs of ancestral spirits and maintain their traditional way of life. Leave for Ruteng and stop by the scenic slope of Mount Inerie, Aimere village where you can see “arak” distillation and fresh palm juice tapping, and Ranamese Lake where you can view the peak of Mount Inerie. When you arrive at Ruteng, check in to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit “Liang Bua”, the home of the Homo Florensies.
Day 5 – Ruteng / Denge / Wae Rebo
After your breakfast, drive down to the south coast where Denge village lies to start your trek to Wae Rebo, the oldest traditional village of the Manggarainesse. The trek will have you oohing and ahhhing at the gorgeous greenery surrounding you as the forest along the way is one of the wealthiest in terms of flora in Indonesia. At Wae Rebo, you will find unique conical houses, one of which will be a “drum house” where the villagers often hold meetings, rituals and prayers. Enjoy dinner with the locals in one of the houses, then settle in for bed there, too.
Day 6 – Wae Rebo / Denge / Labuan Bajo
Have your breakfast then bid goodbye to the villagers of Wae Rebo as you trek down to Denge village where you will be taken to Labuan Bajo’s pier at the western tip of Flores. Stop by Narang where you can take in the gorgeous scenery of wide rice fields backed by verdant hills. At Waeramu beach, you can go swimming. A lunch box will be provided to sate your hunger. Continue on to Labuan Bajo and check in to your hotel for dinner and rest.
Day 7 – Labuan Bajo / Rinca Island / Komodo Island
Transfer to the pier of Labuan Bajo to set sail for Rinca Island. At Rinca, start your trek through the dry forests of the island in search of the Komodo dragon. Along the way, you may also see some other wildlife like deer, long-tailed macaques and tropical birds. When you finish your trek, return to the boat to head for Kalong island where you can witness hundreds of flying foxes emerging from the mangrove forests at sunset. Lunch and dinner are served onboard, and you can settle in for the night on the boat as well.
Day 8 – Komodo Island / Pink Beach / Manta Point / Labuan Bajo
Set sail for Lohliang, the Ranger station at Komodo Island. Once there, a local ranger will lead the way along your trek trail through the forests where you can find more Komodo dragons and other wildlife. After you trek, return to the boat and go to Pink Beach where you can relax on the beach or swim and snorkel in the clear waters that have plenty of coral and tropical fish. At Manta Point, get into the water and experience swimming with the gentle and graceful Manta rays. Return to Labuan Bajo in the afternoon.
Day 9 – Labuan Bajo / Denpasar
After your breakfast, head out to the city for sightseeing with your first stop being Batu Cermin (Mirror Stone) Cave. The cave has reflective, smooth walls that reflect light like mirrors.
