Experience Flores through cultural visits to several traditional villages along with visits to some of Flores’ most unique natural attractions like the Kelimutu tricoloured crater lakes and Penggajawa Blue Stone Beach!
Day 1 – Denpasar / Maumere / Moni
You will meet with the tour representative upon your arrival at Maumere. From there, you will be driven directly to Moni to visit Lisedetu village. Spend some time sightseeing in the village, observing the traditional houses of Lioness before moving on towards your accommodation where you will have dinner and settle in for the night to recharge your energy before tomorrow’s activities.
Day 2 – Moni / Kelimutu Lakes / Ende / Bajawa
Get up bright and early in time to drive down to Kelimutu volcano where the three famous coloured crater lakes lie. Arrive just in time to see the sun rise languidly over the gorgeous location. Kelimutu volcano is located in central Flores, Indonesia, and is home to three colourful acid crater lakes that can range from dark green to red and blue. The reason for these colours is the different salts and oxides suspended in the water of the lakes.
The three lakes Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old People), Tiwu Nua Muri Kooh Tai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched, or Enchanted Lake) are usually coloured blue, green and red, respectively. These colours may range according to changes in season, making them a unique and panoramic sight. When you’re done sightseeing at Kelimutu, head on to Saga and Wologai villages to observe the daily life of the locals.
Lunch will be served at a local restaurant in Ende. A stop will be made en route to Ende by Penggajawa Blue Stone Beach. Beautiful grey and blue stones of different shapes and sizes replace the regular sand shore one would find at a beach. Watch as local women examine the stones and collect the best to sell them for garden decorations. Head back to your accommodation and enjoy your dinner before bed.
Day 3 – Bajawa / Ende
After your breakfast at the hotel, embark on a journey to explore the traditional villages of the Bajawa tribes. Visit Bena, a megalithic village where the local villagers preserve their traditional beliefs of ancestral spirits and maintain their way of life, which can be seen in their “Ngadhu” and “Bhaga”. Ngadhu and Bhaga are conical thatched roof huts that symbolize male and female ancestral spirits. From Bajawa, make your way over to Ende.
Stop by the slope of the active volcano Inerie to take some pictures in the panoramic location. Lunch will be provided along the way to Ende. Visit Nuabosi on the way as well to have a breathtaking view of Ende town with its backdrop of mountains and volcanoes. Upon your arrival at the hotel, check in and have your dinner before calling it a night.
Day 4 – Ende / Denpasar
Enjoy your breakfast at the hotel before taking some time to pack and prepare for your return flight. Once you’re ready to go, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home.
