Day 1 – Denpasar / Maumere / Moni
Arrive safely at the airport and meet up with the tour representative who will greet you once you step foot onto the lands of Maumere. Your tour guide will then drive you directly to Moni to pay Lisedetu village a visit. Go ahead and do some sightseeing, observing the traditional houses of Lioness before you will be brought to your accommodation for dinner and a good night’s rest.
Day 2 – Moni / Kelimutu Lakes / Riung
Catching the sunrise over Kelimutu’s tricoloured crater lakes is not an experience to be missed, so wake up bright and early for the drive to the location. You should arrive just in time to see the sun brightening up the sky. Located in central Flores, Indonesia, Kelimutu volcano is home to three colourful acid crater lakes that can range from dark green to red and blue. The different salts and oxides suspended in the water of the lakes are what give the lakes their colours.
The three lakes are called Tiwu Ata Mbupu (Lake of Old People), Tiwu Nua Muri Kooh Tai (Lake of Young Men and Maidens) and Tiwu Ata Polo (Bewitched, or Enchanted Lake), and they are usually coloured blue, green and red, respectively. Changes in the season may cause these colours to range as well. Your next stop will be at Saga and Wologai villages to observe locals going about their daily lives. Enjoy your lunch that will be served at a local restaurant in Ende.
Before lunch, stop by Penggajawa Blue Stone Beach where gorgeous grey, blue and turquoise stones of different shapes and sizes line the shore, replacing the regular golden sand that is usually the default shore of most beaches. Local women can often be seen scouring the beach for unique stones to collect and be sold to be used for garden decorating purposes. Once you’re done for the day, head back to your hotel for a dinner and rest.
Day 3 – Riung / Bajawa
After your breakfast, embark on a boat trip to explore the spectacular sea garden of seventeen islands. The reef of seventeen islands is uniquely beautiful, boasting a variety of hard and soft corals along with a multitude of colourful tropical fish. There are 17 islands in total in the area, which means that there are plenty of scenic white sandy beaches to relax upon and a diverse cast of marine life to discover on some underwater activities.
Lunch and a barbeque will be provided on the island to fill you up, then you will sail back to Riung to be driven up to Bajawa. A stop will be made by Soa, a natural hot spring pool that is great for bathing. Bajawa itself is a nice small town which also serves as the capital city of the Ngada Regency, which is home to the Ngada, Riung and Nagekeo tribes. Return to your accommodation for dinner and bed.
Day 4 – Bajawa / Ende
Have your breakfast at the hotel then be driven to the villages of the Bajawa tribes to explore their way of life. Bena is one of those villages and is a megalithic one whereby its local villagers preserve their traditional beliefs of ancestral spirits and carry out their way of life. This way of life can be seen in their “Ngadhu” and “Bhaga” which are conical thatched roof huts that symbolize the male and female ancestral spirits.
Leave Bajawa and head for Ende, but not before stopping by the slope of the active volcano Inerie where you can take some lovely pictures at the panoramic location. En route to Ende, lunch will be provided. Give Nuabosi a visit as well along the way to experience an amazing view of Ende town that has a backdrop of scenic mountains and volcanoes. Once you arrive at your hotel, check in and enjoy your dinner before you settle into bed for the night.
