Tour Description:

Jeram Besu boasts rapids from Class 1 to 3 which guarantees all rafters, whether first-timers or experienced, a wet and wild fun time. Considered one of the best spots in Malaysia for white water rafting, Malaysians and Singaporeans alike will make the effort to travel to Jeram Besu for a run down its waters. Before you actually take on the challenge of Jeram Besu’s rapids, you will first have to go through a mandatory water confidence course.

This course is meant to prepare you for what to expect, with its activities that will train you how to float, sit and paddle, and safely resurface from a capsize. You will also be jumping into a churning part of the river called the “Mother Rapids” in the “man overboard” exercise, so steel your nerves in preparation! Once you’ve gone through these trails, you will be able to board a raft and take on the surging rapids.

The 4WD to Berembun waterfall will take you for another rough, albeit fun, ride. The journey to the waterfall should take a duration of about 45 minutes over the undeveloped terrain. Lata Berembun waterfall is one of Pahang’s best natural treasures, and the journey there is well worth it, as the waterfall’s beauty is not one to be dismissed. Before reaching the waterfall, you will pass by countless tall trees as you head deeper into the Benom range.

At its relatively high altitude with its abundance of shady trees, the waterfall area is cooling and refreshing. Marvel at the powerful cascades of water that rush down huge granite boulders to gather in a large pool at the base of the waterfall. You can choose to swim in the deep pool, but if you do so, make sure you wear a life jacket as a safety precaution. You can also picnic by the scenic waterfall, as its beautiful backdrop and pleasant background noise invoke a serene atmosphere.

The lush tropical forest of Lata Jarum is one of the few homes to the Rafflesia. Yes, Rafflesia in Peninsular Malaysia! They don’t grow only in Borneo, as opposed to popular belief. This majestic and smelly flower boasts the title of the world’s largest single flower of any flowering plant. It can grow up to be 100 centimetres in diameter and weigh in at 10 kilograms per flower. It is quite the intimidating flower, with its sheer size, bright red colour and wart-covered petals, and gaping chamber.

When the flower has bloomed from its bud of 16 months, it will remain healthy and alive for 8 – 10 days. Throughout that duration, it gives off a stench that is meant to attract flies and various other insects to lay their eggs in the flower’s chamber. When the insects do that, they aid the flower in pollination. Being a parasitic plant, the Rafflesia does not need to carry out photosynthesis and feeds off a host vine instead. Definitely, make the most out of this trek to see this unique flower with your very own eyes!

Lata Jarum forest not only offers an interesting trek to discover the Rafflesia; it also has a waterfall to show off. Located only a few kilometres from the Ulu Dong village, this waterfall does not boast the powerful cascades that other Malaysian waterfalls possess. Despite this, it still does a good job of creating a serene atmosphere that will make your swim or picnic feel out of this world. Since you’re already at Lata Jarum, you should not miss out on this visit.
