Take on the challenge of white water rafting down Jeram Besu’s rapids, travel to Berembun waterfall in a rugged 4WD for swimming or a picnic, and try your hand at pond fishing for half a day!
Jeram Besu boasts rapids ranging from Class 1 to 3, and is a great choice for beginners and experienced rafters alike for white water rafting. It is one of Malaysia’s best whitewater rafting spots and a testament to this is how Malaysians and Singaporeans have made and are still making trips down to Pahang just to get their rafts on its waters. There will be a few trails you will first have to take on before actually rafting.
The first one would be the mandatory water confidence course where you will be taught the proper techniques of floating on the river, sitting and paddling in a raft, and how to safely resurface from a capsized raft. The other trail is the “man overboard” activity in which you are expected to make a jump off the edge of a cliff into a part of the river called the “Mother Rapids”. This will help boost your adrenaline and confidence once you resurface, ready to take on the rapids in your raft!
Another bumpy ride in this package is the 4WD ride that will take you to Berembun waterfall. Located deep within the Benom range, the journey to the waterfall will be exciting as the 4WD manoeuvres through rough terrain and leafy forests. Your destination of Berembun waterfall, however, is sure to beat the view you had on the way right out of the ballpark! Nestled in lush greenery at a high altitude, Berembun waterfall is tall and proud.
Fresh, clear water splashes down a series of 7 or so cascade over huge mossy granite boulders. The thick canopy of trees shades you from the sun’s rays and lend the place a magical touch. The atmosphere at the waterfall is cool and sweet, perfect for a lovely little picnic on one of the lower boulders around the perimeter of the waterfall. At the base of it lies a large and deep pool that invites you in for an invigorating swim, and if you fall prey to its beckoning, do wear a life jacket.
Spend half a day at a freshwater fish pond and try your hand at pond fishing. Learn the basics of pond fishing and get tips from your local guide if possible. Recommended lures for pond fishing are sink worms, jigs, and shallow crankbaits, as these are what pond fish are attracted to. Pond fishing is relatively simpler than fishing out at sea as the water in a pond would be calmer and the fish are already contained in that specific area, so just have some patience and enjoy basking in the sun while waiting for a fish to nibble at your bait.
